read a couple of post on this and now your quoting when you didn't have the slightest idea it happened two days ago..
way to go
The question in the OP isn't soldiers in general, its specific to Chris Kyle
I didn't start the conversation about soldiers in general, I simply addressed certain points made by a certain post. If you want to cry about me going off topic, you better do it for everyone else participating in the discussion as well.
No, but Vol-in-AR is correct.
Read up a bit more on the trial involving the parties in My Lai before tossing it out there blindly. There's a reason the verdict came back the way it did.
And FTR, I'm torn on the whole thing myself.
Your condescension and ill informed analysis of the situation he faced are plenty. No other disrespect required.
$50M is not $500B. Do you know what the difference is? $50M is what A Rod makes in 2 years. $500B will get countries out of debt. $500B could make everyone in a metropolis a millionaire.
$50M is paltry.

What the hell are you talking about? I stated multiple times that I couldn't judge him on his actions because I'm not at all informed on all the details of his service. Now you're just making **** up.
1) you haven't read the book.
2) you haven't seen the movie.
3) you admittedly know little more than what you have gleaned from the media reports on the book.
You and I are both the same in this respect. However, I err on the side of respect until I find out differently. You, on the other hand, go the other direction claiming you don't understand the automatic respect given these guys. To me, that is disrespectful.
1) I don't think you should form your opinion based on a film.
2) I was very specific in saying I respect their position, so again, I'm not sure where that's coming from. I said I didn't understand the hero worship based on little to no information, which goes far beyond respect and creates the aura of immunity to criticism.
Why do you feel the need to do so? Why is criticism needed? You have already stated you know nothing of this man. Yet?????

Edit: Wiki, good for you.
Because people in this thread were getting butthurt as all hell when anyone posted something even slightly detracting of Kyle, and I posed the question "should soldiers be above criticism?" That's how all of this started.
It seems like you need to grow up because you can't tolerate people with differing opinions than yours.
I have no issue with differing opinions, when they are backed up by facts
I had to provide you with the only fact you can hang your hat on, that not all military are considered hero's example Lt Calley
but this thread isn't about general hero worship of the military, it was specific to Chris Kyle's accomplishments in protecting fellow service members
I'm not about to base my entire hero decision based on one aspect of a person's life. You really are looking at this with some SERIOUS bias
I am biased, because I can appreciate the dedication, effort, and sacrifice Kyle had to make to achieve what he did.
The other side of the equation, is not just the 160 bad guys he killed, but the 100's and 1,000 of lives he saved because of taking the shot
the OP, asked a specific question, if you don't think he's a hero, you are entitled to your opinion
