'15 MD OT Pat Allen

You say that as if UGA isn't saying:

"Why play for UT where they destroyed 4 OL draft grades to the point where only 1 was drafted in the first 4 Rounds when all were given a Round 4 or better grade going into 2013? And look at their OL now, they're awful due to coaching."

While there are a compendium of issues (scheme mismatch, injuries, etc) that were to play, don't think that UGA doesn't have plenty of ground to stand on when trying to discredit our OL coaching ability.

Dude, lighten up. It was a joke. Oh yeah? Well Richt looks like Helen Hunt.

What I don't understand is I thought we were doing zbs before Butch. What kind of exotic blocking schemes are we trying to do that is so vastly different than the other ones already discussed ad nauseum?

I am not the expert. Just passing along what was said. Maybe someone else can break down the difference.

Carefully read what I was saying.

That isn't my opinion but that is certainly the perception of UT's OL.

https://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2013/JUN13/DBJune04.html

Phil Steele, a respected and well-known CFB guy, had 3 UT OL on the 2013 All-SEC 2nd Team. 2 went undrafted and 1 was in the 6th Round. James is the only one that was drafted high and he was 3rd Team preseason All-SEC.

You don't think a guy trying to convince a high schooler to go to Y school and not X school would use a legit source like Phil Steele?

Right, wrong, good, bad, lies, truth, etc. Don't matter in recruiting. Their job is to get the guy to sign a LOI and get feet on campus.

You said draft status... Phil Steele and SEC team predictions is not draft status. I'm saying we did not have 4 OL projected to go in top 4 rds like you claim. We had 2 and one didn't because of injury and the other stock actually went up.

"Don Mahoney will be in the area as well Thursday as he will meet with Pat Allen. Despite Georgia hanging around the vibe we continued to get is Tennessee is the preferred choice at this point."

If we add this OT, I think this class could rival last years if not exceed, but we've got to fill this need.
We really needed two boss OT's, cause right now...who our starting OT's will be in the fall is WAY up in the air. As a HS recruit, that's what you're looking for....an unsettled depth chart, when you arrive.

I think Jack Jones might be the guy as a RS freshman, but he's got too much growing to do, to compete in the SEC, IMHO. We need at least one more, if not Allen and St.Louis, both.

I hope someone on the staff called this kid at 12:01 tonight just to remind him how much we need him

He never should've been hired in the first place. We had a great coach in that position who badly wanted to stay.

It does not matter if he wanted to stay or not. A new HC should never have his hands tied by being told he has to keep Coach X, Y or Z from the previous staff. A good coach would never agree to it in the first place. He will bring in his own staff of his people.

Thank you.

The Mahoney versus Pittman debate is nearly equaling the Dalton Santos, Vonn Bell, Torrance Gibson, etc., threads. Here's the deal: it is difficult, if not impossible, for anyone outside of the program to clearly evaluate the coaching and recruiting abilities of either coach. The OL this year was pitiful for sure and it is arguable that Pittman remaining on staff would've helped this year with Skipper, etc., being on the team, but that does not demonstrate Pittman was the better coach or recruiter and it does not demonstrate Pittman was the better long term option (although that is a possibility). After all, Pittman had a very talented OL that did not run block well and he also never signed a can't miss, 5* LT, which people are now beating on Mahoney for failing to do. Similarly, this is CBJ's second full recruiting class after the staff tried to salvage the Dooley '13 class. As it stands, the OL class of '15 is pretty darn good and, if we add Allen (which VQ suggests is likely) or St. Louis, this class will be even better. It is hard to argue that a class with Allen/St. Louis, Jack Jones, Boulware, Zach Stewart, ad Chance Hall (who could be a beast since the staff zeroed in on him early and stuck with him through the serious injury) is not one of the best OL classes in the country. Jones played LT in the all-star game and was commended for his performance against the best players in the country. So, he could be a stud LT for UT. We also don't know if Allen is a Vol and whether he is a SEC level LT or if Hall is a SEC level LT. In sum, absent losing Boulware and missing on Allen and St. Louis, UT has a very good OL class. If we add Allen or St. Louis and keep Boulware, there should be no recrimination for the OL recruiting class because it will be one of the best on paper classes in the country. Even if we simply hang on to the OLs committed, it is one of the best classes in the country.

Class is good jury is out. 2015-2016 verdict returns.
