Top Programs - Where Are We

Seems UGA has said alot of things since we beat them like a drum. It just adds fuel to the fire for next year... I hope they keep it up.

Fact is... they had their chance and blew it just like we had our chance against UF and Bammer and blew it. There are no excuses to be made.
The Dawgs saying they would've beaten us if they hadn't played us while they sucked was sarcasm, plain and simple... :birgits_giggle:

amazing how this statement keeps getting posted :disappointed:

Hats off for us having the East title. I only say that because we never put it away when should have. We were in a position to control our destiny on more than one occasion and took till the last game to lock it up. I consider more that we merely survived, but that's OK too. We had breaks go our way in 98 to get that title too. There is a lot of luck involved in titles aside from the wins that have to go up.

We were lucky we didn't play Auburn or LSU during the regular season. Chances are, we wouldn't have made the trip to Atlanta if we had.

However, we don't control the schedule, we just play. And we did get there on the field with the schedule that was given to us.

But I don't think anyone here would argue we really had a championship caliber team this year. Champions don't lose 59-20 and 41-17.

We win 9 games a year and we just won the SEC East title. What more do you want?

j/k

Division is not a title. Title means something but it is not applicable here... Face the facts hard to choke down we are a top 20 team just barely in the last 8 years

No offense to anyone on here, but you have to take all this with a grain of salt. I'm no Fulmer supporter, but it seems to me some (not all) of the Fulmer bashers are the same ones saying Majors got screwed. Coincidence? And before I get blasted, I said SOME.

The Fulmer supporters seem to be afraid of change, and I know they remember the bad ol days under Johnny (I sure do), but the fact is some of the complaints that were made against him are now being made against Fulmer. We are kind of going nowehere fast with the program it seems.

As usual, I guess everyone is right to a degree. Truth is is the middle, I guess. One last thing, everyone keeps saying we're just going through a cycle like all programs do... and that very well may be. My question is this: when do we start seeing the upswing?

A question to ponder, and a good one. I'm in the middle with my opinion on the HC position. In the long run, I think we've done well to consider consistency in an era of revolving doors rather than jump on the bandwagon in haste and have to endure multiple changes. I lean towards a replacement the last couple of years, but there is also wisdom in timing and availability. And, I can appreciate Fulmer being given the opportunity to turn things around from an employer standpoint, even if I lean towards his time being spent.

By your, as usual, flawed logic the following teams are powerhouses since they have won a National Championship (AP poll):

Clemson
Minnesota( five by the way)
Syracuse
Colorado
BYU
Georgia Tech
Pitt
TCU
Army
Maryland
Great company we (UT) are keeping by having that Crystal Bowl.:clapping:

It's a ball and it's awarded to the BCS champ. Have any of the teams you listed even been to a BCS bowl?

All the teams he mentioned are considered near the top of CFB right now but VT, UGA and WV have not won a title in recent memory (the others have). My logic is not flawed but rather seemed to fly right by you.

All good points, especially the last. Truth be told, we probably came out better then given hope for.

Great post. I find PJ's logic is usually flawed and mostly argumentative. :salute:

Watchin the BC/MSU game on ESPN and keep noticing on the ticker the following

Georgia - 3rd BCS Bowl under Richt (since '01)
Florida - BCS bowl in '06
LSU - 3rd BCS Bowl since '03

Personally, I would rank Tennessee right along any of the above teams you've mentioned, in tradition and respect. That probably doesn't mean much to you coming from a Razorback, but it's true.

USC - 6th straight BCS Bowl
Texas - 7 straight 10 win seasons
Oklahoma - 6th BCS Bowl in under Stoops
Ohio St - 2nd straight BCS Bowl
West Va - 2nd BCS Bowl in three yrs
VT - 2nd BCS Bowl in 4 yrs

Look at their conferences. Closely. None of these teams above go through what Tennessee, or Arkansas, or any other SEC team has to go through week after week.

If you want to compare Tennessee with other SEC programs, I think that's fair. But when you venture outside of the conference in your comparisons, and mention teams from the ACC or Big 12, you're comparing apples to oranges. BTW, when did UGA last win a national championship? And Tennessee won theirs, when?

Just saying.

Trust me. As a Vol fan, you don't know what mediocrity is. Try it from an Arkansas perspective some day.

:hmm:

Why can't we have these results and/or expactations??

All these schools regularly going to the big bowl games and here we are with an AD that is glad we're going back to the Outback. Boy would it be nice to have some "Filet Mignon" expectations and quit settling for "Rump Roast" results. Man, would it be nice to be in a BCS Bowl.

Maybe one day we'll up our expectations and get some guys in here that can win and get us to another BCS Bowl.
I thought we have been over this before.

Precisely! It's good to just stand up and admit we lost those games. It's unbecoming to make excuses. Just work like heck in the offseason and beat them again. It's not like UGA should have forgotten we whipped them the year before. I suppose if you spend all that time between games fantasizing about why you really were the better team, history just repeats itself. Let those Dawgs console themselves and maybe we'll get a three-peat next year... and they can just recycle the excuses as they did this year. Maybe they'll run on the field after they score on us as if they're shocked it ever happened.
