'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

That's fine but at some point you have to quit being biased because you're a fan of a team and see what is obvious. He doesn't belong. It was a failed experiment.

I played multiple sports. You don't throw talent like he has away unless you can't coach worth a damn. He may not contribute till 2016-17 & that's ok. What sample size do you have? I fell you are completely unrealistic with your expectations for an 18 year old.

I just have to be honest here, Jakob is not good at American football and will never contribute here. Will likely get a "gitshirt" at some point.

You are wrong. The coaches are very high on him and his work ethic. They knew what they were getting in JJ and they brought him in. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it is not there. Maybe you need to get a gitshirt.

Well, I'm not the world's greatest talent scout but I do get paid to evaluate talent and recruit. Hate to say it but Jakob will be recruited over pretty quickly.

Nah, I'm just gonna stick with you being full of it. The first red flag being your comments about AJ starting at MLB as a freshman. He played outside as a freshman and struggled...alot .....like Jakob Johnson. And AJ had played 4 years of American football in HS

He can play DE. Had some good scrimmages at that position. You keep him and develop him. By his junior and senior year he'll be good to go.

Same conference but no not Cumberlands.

So I don't usually jump into these little skirmishes amongst posters on here but I'm going to have to question:
1) if you really are what you claim. The reason is that if you truly worked on a college football staff you should be more professional than to be posting on the potential outcome of a student athlete on a message board.
2) whether you are actually any good at what you do. If you have any experience at all with the college game you know there is a huge learning curve for linebackers, esp mlbs. You would never bail on a kid with measurables like JJ just because he is not assimilating into the game fast enough his freshman year.
I think I will stick with the UT coaches assessment of JJ

Take this garbage elsewhere man. Kid is giving his all for Tennessee. Needs time. Maybe a redshirt. He'll work his ass off until he finds a way to contribute.

Save your evaluations and predictions for Who Gives a S*** University of whoever it is that is making the mistake of writing you checks.

Yowza.

OT: Agree completely.

Well, JJ had 14 total tackles as a true freshmen after one season of real HS football.

Travis Stephens had 9 carries for 36 yards with a long of 14 yards.

I guess he turned out pretty well for a non contributor. Maybe if you rethink this a bit your obvious high level of intellect and perspective may lead you to change your mind.

1) This is not a student-athlete that I am personally involved with. This is no different than if I was evaluating how Cam Newton is doing in the NFL.
2) You can tell pretty quickly when kids get on campus if they will be able to contribute or not.

Maybe if you're actually their coach and around them all the time. Even then it's silly to say that kids never turn things around.

On the other hand there's no way to tell that just from seeing a true freshman thrown in as starting MLB mid-season from a regular fan's perspective.
