I know it's uncomfortable to talk about kids getting 'processed' or leaving because they're just not going to see the field here but it's often best for all involved. That said, it's also the dirty side of roster rebuilding in that some may wind up being encouraged to leave rather than to think about their options rationally/consider their football futures. However, early 'processing' is exactly how Saban built Bama into what it is today. Their roster was pitiful and needed to be flipped.
I don't like it when it's a shove out the door rather than asking kids to think about their future playing time and future in general but rebuilding (if you're serious about it) will always have casualties and is a necessary evil these days. I just hope our coaching staff has the players' futures in mind as well as the teams and TBH, I think they do.
We've seen others get placed at good schools - recruits who couldn't get in academically and the like and I do think that's more how this staff operates. It seems they go out of their way to make sure players who leave find good schools where they'll see the field.
Great post and you're correct.
Those that think of "processing" as Butch pushing the player out the door against their will couldn't be more wrong.
Often times, the player knows that he will not have a good opportunity to start until maybe his junior or senior year and he would rather go somewhere smaller where he can continue to pursue his education while getting much more PT than he would at Tennessee.
Everyone has Saban as the poster boy of processing but that obviously hasn't hurt him in recruiting yet. You want to know why? Because every big time HS recruit thinks they can cut it at the next level but they really don't know until they get into school.

I believe the staff tries to find them a place outside the SEC where they can do well in school and also stand a good chance of getting plenty of playing time.

At some point in time, the goal should be to have enough depth that no one starts until his junior or senior year. We will really be a powerhouse when that day comes.
