Ain't that the truth? He is only 26 though. I've got a $6800 ded and my family coverage is still damn near $1000/ month.
I don't see how you relate this to Obamacare or Obama.
Collection Agencies have been hounding people for years. As far as I am concerned they are the scum of the earth. They cuss, lie, threathen to do things they cannot do.
I read the article you posted. The actions listed by the collection agencies is standard procedure by many of them.
Many of the older seniors are easy to scare. The collection companies are aware of that and try to exploit it. The actions listed are not only done to seniors but to anyyone that can be manipulated. They work on a percent of collections. They don't collect they make no money. This leads to bad practices by many of the collection agencies.
If you have ever been admitted to a hospital you would be aware the billing procedures are odd to say the least. Some medical providers automatically turns their billing over to a collection agency instead of billing in-house. Each provider does separate billing. If you go to an ER then admitted to hospital. The billing for the ER, Hospital and services are billed separately or they are at our local hospital. It is not unusual to receive a new "bill for services" 6-12 months after the hospital stay or service.
Credit cards are another story. If people are struggling to survive, they should not be using their cards or use them wisely.
While I agree that I have no room to talk having such a small premium, it's really the principle of the federal govt mandating that I must have this. What happened to the liberal cry of stay off my body Washington? I guess it's stay off my body unless your agenda matches mine.
He doesn't have to get insurance.
But he will pay a fine if he decides not to. Which is fair! Because tax payer dollars are probably going to be used to pay his hospital bill if he is uninsured. So it makes sense to make him pay a fine.
I pay taxes because I'm a homeowner or I earn money. I shouldn't be taxed just because I'm simply breathing

You pay taxes to support the establishments I mentioned. This isn't a breathing tax. It's a medical tax. If you decline insurance and have a major accident, were not going to simply watch you die. Therefor you pay up a very small amount upfront.
It's all designed to prevent the uninsured from making a large burden on us all, and I fully support that.
Its medical bills that are the biggest BS - they can charge whatever they want -- Its the healthcare industry that needs fixed, if Barrys BS mandatory ins. law is going to continue. I also agree with your view on credit cards and collection agencys being scum ---- also didnt want to start a thread so I put it in here

I agree with you. Obamacare is a huge pos. The only ones benefitting are those with preexisting conditions

he will get sent to a collection agency and they will garnish his wages if he has a job - taxpayers only pay for welfare moochers
To prevent ? Why the hell do you think we've ALL gotten bent over and fisted?
You pay taxes to fire and police departments you may never use also. what makes this so different?
A lot of people, going into 2015, have the number $95.00 on the brain. They expect that smallish number to be their penalty for not having insurance. In fact, the tax can be a lot higher but is capped at the "national average" bronze level plan. There are going to be a lot of confused and angry people this spring when taxes are filed.
