It doesn't. Been a criminal/attorney for over 9 years. That excuse doesn't always fly. As always, each case can turn on the facts. The link would help with the State's case. I guess they got a little help from the local police.

I may be misremembering, but I thought Hargis stated this after the fact. I thought he came out after hiring Butch or Gruden publicly turned us down and said that there were talks.

I do know that WREG in Memphis reported that Gruden had a contract in hand, but he hadn't made a decision.

It was a silly time. People can laugh all they want, but I heard enough rumblings from different areas that I firmly believed that Gruden at least discussed the job with someone at UT.

I agree. I think Gruden and Tennessee were in serious discussions about the job but Hart backed off because Gruden wanted an insane level of control.

IIRC, reports started coming out on here and elsewhere around the time the entire deal fell through saying that Gruden wanted things that no AD would ever agree on, like full control of scheduling (he wanted to replace ALL cupcake OOC opponents with marquee opponents like Ohio State and USC every year) and basically run the football team with zero interference from the AD or university.

Not to mention his insane salary demands for his assistants.

He basically wanted Saban-like control without any proof that he could deliver Saban-like results.

I think at the time most of us just wanted him because he seemed like a magic bullet for recruiting, but I can't see him doing that much better than Butch. Probably worse, actually, as I can't see Gruden sitting in 16-17 year old kid's living rooms. He probably would have sent his assistants to do it while he sat and watched film.

No copper's goin to pin anything on me!...ya see? :scare:

PK Jeff Hall, All-Time UT Points Leader, had 95 points his freshman year. Aaron Medley has 93 points going into the bowl game. I'm not saying anything about anything. I'm just say we have got ourselves a great kicker until Volatil Jr. can get on campus.

Didn't Medley get an extra game?

I wonder how much interest the Eagles would have in Mariota?

NFL trades confuse the hell out of me, especially when it pertains to draft picks and other teams getting involved, so I have no idea how that would work, but they seem like the one team that would benefit from him in the future the most.

If they make the playoffs, they're likely not very interested.

I don't understand why more teams don't sell out on their lines and a top RB more than these QB reaches.

Possibly somewhere between the league moving to become more much passing oriented and the needing more successful pieces to pan out correctly for the other style to play out as intended? (Plus it's easier to defend the run...if a running heavy team that can't pass gets shut down in the former, they tend to greatly struggle.)

If they make the playoffs, they're likely not very interested.

Making the playoffs won't matter unless Foles comes back and plays out of this world. Kelly knows neither Foles or Sanchez is the answer.

That being said, I don't know that they'd give up what it takes to get to Mariota.

Miami wants him.

If CHI is firing their coach, then there's a third. (Someone mentioned something about ATL being a possibility?)

It seems like any he'd get looked at or offered for any head coach opening in the NFL.

Titans should trade back 3-4 spots take Cooper.

With the extra pick obtained trade up back into late first and take Gurley.

Obtain Cutler from Bears.

Offense will include. ..

Cutler

Gurley/Sankey

Cooper/Hunter/Wright

Walker

They might have to take Cooper wherever their actual draft pick is. If his workouts/combine, measurables, pro day, etc, are as good as his college career, he might not be the type of player you get the luxury of trading down and still getting.

The Titans haven't exactly cornered the market on finding good value through free agency so I wouldn't necessarily go that route.

I think Mett needs a chance to prove he either is or isn't the guy. Plus, there isn't a Franchise QB in this draft, IMO. Winston has future disaster written all over him and Mariota will spend the majority of his first few years in the NFL learning how to read coverages and progress through his checks. In other words, if I'm an NFL a GM, there's no way I ever draft a QB in the first round who's never ran a pro-style offense before.

I like the idea of dropping back in picks 3-6 and picking up either Gregory or Shane Ray. This team needs a pass rush above all, IMO, but has significant needs elsewhere too.

Basically, the Titans are a train wreck.

Penalty issues with Ray somewhat concern me.

He did, but Medley hit 3 more field goals than Hall did on the same number of attempts (Medley 19/25 - Hall 16/25). Hall has more points because he made 11 more extra points.

Right, but Hall also just played 11 plus a bowl his freshman year (well, pretty much all teams did prior to 2006).

Jones has tried to plenty fun with the right focus for a game. Obviously, that fun has been a trip to Gatlinburg. Friday evening is a team movie before a weekend of practice and a Monday departure by noon for everyone to get home for Christmas. Even the office staff gets to dismiss midday on Tuesday. In addition to outings, Jones has had messages for his team from former players. He mentioned on Thursday that former Vol Peyton Manning had a video message for the team. Saturday former head coach Phillip Fulmer will address the team after an invitation from Jones. It will make at least the third time that Fulmer has addressed a Jones team since his arrival at Tennessee. Jones also has reached out to a number of former Vols to express the importance of and magnitude of reaching a postseason bowl game. It's no accident Jones, who's worked tirelessly to form a nice bond with Manning, asked the future NFL Hall of Famer to address the Vols via video for the 20-year anniversary of Manning's first bowl. Jones constantly peruses the history of Tennessee football and also has others also advising him on the program's past.

Manning and Fulmer + everything else, can I just say one more time: Butch gets it.
