Police in Beloit are launching a new effort to reduce gun violence in which they're asking city residents to volunteer to have police search their homes for guns.

Police Chief Norm Jacobs said he doesn't expect the phone to be ringing off the hook with requests for police to search their homes. He nevertheless hopes the program will encourage people to think about gun violence as an infectious disease like Ebola, and a home inspection like a vaccine to help build up the city's immune system.

No, they should not be ashamed regardless of their motive. What's despicable is that 20 children and 6 adults were needlessly gunned down. Unbelievable. Have a little respect for the families.

Their children getting killed by a lunatic is one matter and I have all the sympathy in the world for them.

Trying to profit by blaming the manufacturer of a gun instead of the person that used the gun is pathetic and quite another story.

Thanks for putting words in my mouth. Never called anyone garbage. I called the idea of blaming an inanimate object instead of the person behind it garbage.

So what's the point in the lawsuit? Who are they to say a person shouldn't own a particular type of gun? Should I sue an auto manufacturer after a speeding guy hits me because no vehicle should exceed the max posted speed limit?

I never said the lawsuit was a good idea, I simply endorsed their right to file a lawsuit and I took offense to the callous insensitivity of it being called despicable and that they should be ashamed.

Before you go on an anti-gun kick you should probably be reminded that firearms manufacturers are protected from such lawsuits.

It's not a right by any means and a judge should toss it out because it's the law.

What is a shame is the fact that some shyster lawyer sat these people down and convinced them that they could "help" the movement by allowing him to file a lawsuit. The fact that you would defend this BS is a reflection on you and your liberal stance. If you think that you are garbage, well that is up to you. However, these people are being used and are willingly letting themselves be used for profit.
