No offense, brother Vol fan, but if you said that to my face, I'd knock you on the floor where you stood. And I'm actually a really even-tempered and intelligent guy. That's my home, the place where I spent my childhood, the place I would fight and die for that you are pissing on. So yea, I take offense when people like you who only went "1 time" call my city a cesspool. We have our share of issues, but there are good people who live in and love this city, on both sides of the poverty line. Do well to remember that. Cause you won't catch me saying stuff like that about any other city except Gainesville, and that is only because it is home of UF, and I hate everything Gator related as matter of principle.

Well, how about this then? I lived there for 8 years. It's a dirty, rotten cesspool of crooked politicians, bad neighborhoods and a high rate of violent crimes. It's America's @sshole. Or do I need to live there for 9 years to say that? Wild horses couldn't drag me back there.

It doesn't matter if that is your home and if you're offended by it. People are entitled to their opinions about Memphis, and while you may love it, his opinion, and mine, are shared by many others.

I promise that you would not knock me anywhere little man.

Besides....Gainsville may be home of the Gators, but as far as the area, it's 1000 times better than Memphis. You can be in denial all you want, but Memphis is probably in the bottom 5 worst cities in the US.

This I can respect. I have a lot of pride in my city, and what it can be, because it was not always like what it is today. The crime rate and the amount of gang activity disgusts me, and the education system is broken, and the county wants nothing to do with fixing the problem, but it is my home. And, obviously, I am fiercely protective of my home. All I want is for people to respect my home, which is and always will be a part of our great state, whether they would sign a petition or not. Because you respect people's homes. At least that's how I was raised in my trashy city. And no, this is not something I will stop being offended by. I can take jokes. I can take conversation about the corrupt leadership and slimy characters that are in control of key parts of the city. But do not attack my home. Because I don't attack yours.

what if I told you that my home was Gainesville, and it really hurts my feelings that you don't like it and I take offense and I'm gonna knock your head in.

Seems fair doesn't it???
or did I misunderstand your hatred for "my fair city"?

Well, sir doctor sir, I am so sorry you feel that way. You can absolutely hate Memphis. That is absolutely fine, and you have some fine reasons to. I'd even be glad to talk about them, and I'm sure I'd agree with you. Nonetheless, an amount of respect is owed when talking about places where people that love this team, university, state, and country were born and raised, especially when it is a major part of said state. Oh I forgot, it's volnation, respect and courtesy aren't allowed.

Me personally? I never said that Gainesville is a dirty nasty cesspool. I said I personally hate it as association with UF due to my UT ties, but I would never personally attack the city itself, and even less so if you were very prideful of said city, or even of UF. I was just taught respect that way. If I continued to say that it was a cesspool full of jorts wearing swamp-dwellers who can't speak proper english and have improper relations with family members after you brought up your offense, I would expect punches to be thrown. Seems fair to me "Hey, I understand there are problems with my city, but I was born and raised here and it is very dear to me, can you be a little more respectful?" is not a hard thing to do. Why is this such a hard thing to comprehend?

A. I really am not going to get into a who would beat up who over the internet. THAT is juvenile. B. Memphis probably is in the bottom 5. It is THE least safest city to walk at night last I checked. But I asked for some respect, because again while I will gladly talk about all the reasons why Memphis is so messed up these days, and even do the odd joke, I find blatantly pissing on places where people are born and raised offensive. Again, I don't know why this idea is so foreign.

Says the guy. That said he would. Knock a guy out. Where. He stood.

It is. It's New Orleans without the copious good food and interesting buildings. Also, no Garden District. New Orleans is a dangerous city that smells awful. Call a spade a spade. Don't get your rimmies justled over it.

"I'll talk about why memphis sucks but if you do, I'll get mad and threaten to knock people out then say I won't get into tough guy contests on the internet"

You are my new favorite poster. Please, for great justice, never stop posting.

You've been asking to get trolled for like 3 pages now. I'd say you more than deserve some serious trolling at this point.

We get it. You're proud of Memphis. It's just that most of us view it as a cancer to the state and for most of the reasons you've admitted. We're saying the realities of Memphis are an embarrassment, but for some reason, you acknowledge them but disregard the negatives due to your feelings for the city. "Because I was born there," is not a valid response to these guys' criticism.

This made me laugh. I would have never gotten that impression, but I guess I jumped the gun and didn't draw a clear line when my jimmies got all rustled. So, apologies on not being clear, and for jumping down people's throats. Oh, I completely agree with the New Orleans comparison, but we do have the best BBQ. There is a lot of bad in Memphis. It is, however, my home. And right now, I am missing it dearly.
