Good luck to them. Sometimes the fit isn't right. I do not understand the knee jerk reaction to players deciding to move on. You don't have to make it some great conspiracy. It is what it is.

I promise, none of the guys mentioned as gone, or even may be gone, will have zero effect on the future. So we can all take a collective breath and enjoy the rest of recruiting season. If all 5 or 6 left from last year's class, there would still be over 25 from it plus more than 25 in this class. That's over 50 real football players on the hill. That's a happy thing.

We all knew this was coming. How else do you think we sign a full class in '15? You get rid of the drains. Adios!

Donnie T is legit. Basketvols are fun to watch. Great win!

DT is a good coach, but even if he doesn't get canned due to NCAA issues, it could take him until year 3 to make that team tournament-bound again.

They just beat the number 15 team in the country. Don't go off like in football last year. Move away from the ledge. :loco: :)

It's not falling but my point stands. Take away Hendrix, Scott, Helm, Paulk, Sawyers (potentially) and Henderson and the 2014 class becomes fairly pedestrian for the SEC.

We don't have the depth to just shrug our shoulders and move on without feeling the impact of those losses. Without Hendrix and Henderson, we will have to rely on freshmen at DE again next year. Without Helm, we're relying on more inexperienced TEs. Same at RB after losing Scott and Paulk.

Lol, no....

Take those mentioned above out of our 2014 calculation and we still finish:

#8 in the Country
#5 in the SEC (just behind Georgia)

With them we were:

#5 in the Country
#3 in the SEC (just ahead of A&M)

In no way whatsoever did those guys "make" the class, nor do they markedly diminish the class..

Haven't we always lost players from each recruiting class? The fact that they were highly rated speaks to the depth of the 2014 class to begin with.

When we were rolling we never even noticed, hopefully we are on our way back to that status. I'll roll with the remaining guys who want to be here, wish those who couldn't adjust the best of luck, and welcome in the next batch of guys for 2015.

This isn't the Kiffin class, which was a band of criminals and quiters, this isn't the Dooley classes that were subpar on talent. This is a new time in Tennessee, next man up, GBFO!

So Helm, Hendrix, and Scott are official. When would we find out about Bowles, Sawyers, Payne, Henderson, and Peterman potentially transferring?

IF, again IF the Peterman rumors have any legs at all, wouldn't you think Butch would ask him to go play back up QB at the bowl game? Now anyone who don't think these rumors of guys leaving have any truth to them is fooling their self. 4 down so far.

If they're quitting on us now because they only got SOME playing time as a TRUE FRESHMAN (which is more PT than about 90% of TRUE FRESHMAN in this league) then they would have quit on us through real adversity. Glad they're out. Good luck, don't need you. Enjoy watching the come up

Exactly. And getting pissed over a kid transferring from the program you enjoy being a fan of is just monotonous. Wish the kid good luck...or don't...and move on. Next class we get a good TE and some extremely sick DL recruits. I mean, seriously, Butcher is going to be good IMO. Kids a freak.

I couldn't agree more. And I'm super-excited about Butcher as well.

It's also kind of funny that people are worrying over stars in this situation given two of them were beaten out by guys technically rated lower than them.

Hendrix was rated higher than Barnett but Barnett is a superstar in the making (I feel he's a loss but he was likely doomed to be Barnett's depth here and from his standpoint leaving makes sense -- being stuck in the same freshman class as the next Clowney isn't a position anyone thinking of their future would want because you're not going to get the reps you would elsewhere).

Helm was rated higher than Wolf but Wolf may turn out to be the next Jason Witten and many have said as such. And Ellis surprised everyone this year by being absolutely clutch whenever he had an opportunity (he is going to get used a lot more than previously thought, imo as he's earned more reps and that was true whether Helm stayed or went). Helm, OTOH, was a bit of a disappointment given the expectations I had for him but I may have expected too much from him.

Scott was constantly injured - that's a pretty big problem given he wasn't even getting full speed game hits by a large SEC opponent who wants to hurt you. As talented as he is as a runner, I'm not sure that we're not better off with another spot opening for someone else because he hasn't been able to stay healthy.

We will be fine. I wish them all well at their next stop.

I won't lie, I'm disappointed those guys are leaving. But this is why you always continue to recruit. It's hard to predict how players will react once they get to campus and experience the grind of a D-I player.

I still feel confident in Coach Jones' recruiting capabilities. He's gotten guys here that want to be here and has elevated the talent level.

The only slight positive part of this is that the guys that are ahead of the transfers are also freshman. Well they are technically sophomores now.

This
Thank you

Plus other teams all lose a couple guys as well. Hell UGA has lost almost of their DB class from the last 2 yrs

Some have been confirmed by Butch as gone. The only one of the remaining prospective departures I hope is not leaving is Paulk. If he is innocent I hope he has been cleared of the accusations and it all works out. I believe he is a real football player that could help them with valuable depth in 2015.

MALONE: It is going to be a big game because we will have a lot big targets out so I am going to need to step up.

It is. And UT can be an absolutely overwhelming place for a freshman making the transition to college. The campus is large, the student body is enormous, professors and instructors expect you to be independent (they're not checking up on you like high school and expect you to take the initiative on all kinds of things) and you're expected to navigate almost everything on your own. It's easy to get lost in the crowd and/or become overwhelmed by it all. Not every student will do well at a large college while some thrive at larger colleges. It really depends on the person. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of university and a lot of it depends on fit.

I agree with you except the football players get a lot of help that others do not get.
