It's not falling but my point stands. Take away Hendrix, Scott, Helm, Paulk, Sawyers (potentially) and Henderson and the 2014 class becomes fairly pedestrian for the SEC.

We don't have the depth to just shrug our shoulders and move on without feeling the impact of those losses. Without Hendrix and Henderson, we will have to rely on freshmen at DE again next year. Without Helm, we're relying on more inexperienced TEs. Same at RB after losing Scott and Paulk.

Every sec team has lost a couple from last yr. Sawyers is official?Paulk coming back.

No doubt. I also think folks are stuck in the Dooley years in terms of mindset but this wasn't a Dooley class composed of fifteen 3*s and only three 4*s. And the 2015 class is showing that the '14 class was not an anomaly.

Attrition sucks but it's incredibly normal and our staff has shown we will get more. It's not like in the Dooley years when losing a 4* meant that guy would never be replaced.

Exactly. And getting pissed over a kid transferring from the program you enjoy being a fan of is just monotonous. Wish the kid good luck...or don't...and move on. Next class we get a good TE and some extremely sick DL recruits. I mean, seriously, Butcher is going to be good IMO. Kids a freak.

JONES: Daniel Helm has decided he'll go to another school. Hendrix and Scott will also be going to other schools.

If Jones can stop the bleeding and retain the other guys, this won't be so bad. I'm still worried about Sawyers.

Scott is not experienced. Kamara will be a third yr guy. He is more experienced. Surely we will find someone to replace Daniel Helms 6 catches for 37 yards and 0 TDs. Won't be too hard.

When you bring in 97 players in a class, there are going to be more kids leave. That and he probably oversold the playing time aspect. It sucks to lose them but I'm not worried yet.

Barnett and Hurd talking up the bowl game in the program tweets. It does seem the Vols have retained some high impact freshmen.

Edit: Robertson getting some play now too.

Agreed. And the coaches/AD need to revisit the entire situation to see if it's a systemic failure. A single year of defections will be a blip on the radar. The same number of defections next year and beyond is a big problem.

My dad always said, if it looks like a duck and and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck (i.e. there are too many kids jumping ship for this to be an anomaly).

Are the coaches too tough? Did they set unrealistic expectations for playing time during the recruiting process? Do we have a problem integrating freshmen into the program/school?

It's easy to 'explain away' one or two defections. This seems to be turning into a systemic problem, though.

I think you'll see this as an anomaly after the next few classes unfold. The 2014 class was a very unique situation in that we signed so many freshman and were forced to play them. And like someone mentioned earlier all the guys looking to transfer were surpassed by fellow freshman that were "ranked lower" (except for Scott). Once we aren't relying on freshmen to start and they can look up to juniors and seniors the expectations won't be as great. That can also provide them with some veteran leadership. It doesn't help that most of these guys are out of state players as well.

Can't wait to hear butch speak on it. I'm sure he will try to hide it like he does the injuries, etc.

Why should he? First, he doesn't need to talk about kids who don't want to be here. Second, he isn't going to say anything bad about them because he is better than that. No reason to talk openly about a decision to leave. JMO.

So Helm, Hendrix, and Scott are official. When would we find out about Bowles, Sawyers, Payne, Henderson, and Peterman potentially transferring?

It's time to meltdown. We're losing 3 players!!!

You forgot to add Henderson to that list. The NegaVols will say that's Butch's fault that the NCAA flagged his ACT score mid-season, and he couldn't replicate a similar score when taking it again. Also, possibly Sawyers, although Butch didn't say anything about him after practice.

I don't care what anu studies say, every single home school kid I have ever met is maladjusted. Every single one.

I coached two kids that were home-schooled in the past year, both well-liked by their teammates and had no problem adjusting. I would have never known they were home-schooled if they hadn't told me.
