Eric Garner Grandy Jury Decision Today

You asked of they choked him. What else is it called when someone is put in a choke hold?

So, people that have tough jobs that aren't respected should be expected to cut corners and play free and loose with other people's lives?

My question was rhetorical....did the cop cut corners and choke him rather than hold him in the correct submission position? Maybe it was intentional.....maybe it was a mistake.....maybe he was scared out of his ass wrestling with a 300 pound behemoth.

Is he trained to do it correctly? He should be and most likely is, but my guess is he's probably never had to take down a guy that big. I could be wrong, but each situation is different.

I don't condone cops randomly going around beating, tazing and choking people. Every time I've seen an instance like this the person getting clubbed has at the very least been non-compliant. Cops have to protect themselves from the unknown. If a guy is a big enough idiot to get combative with the police, what else is he capable of?

Have u tried to subdue someone weighing 350 pounds.....I don't think u would be as quick to judge if u had. I watched two cops trying to subdue a 150 pound woman at walmart and their were body parts flying everywhere. Its easy to judge sitting in your underwear on the couch typing on your cpu.

This is an excellent point and why I asked about his hold being an inch and a half off of where it was rather than in the textbook position.

There is no qualitative difference in relation to this discussion. You're just letting people know it's a waste of time talking to you.

No qualitative difference? You guys are acting as if the cop decided from the start that he was gonna walk up and kill the guy and that his death was in cold blood.

a killer? Really? You think the cop that choked the guy for 15 seconds or whatever it was actually killed him?
Even though his windpipe was intact and he didn't suffocate?

15 seconds is a long time. I'm sure it wasn't just a coincidence that he had a heart attack directly after being choked.

He had severe Athena, severe diabetes, heart disease and other ailments....the point remains if he complies he is alive today.

Because he was a non violent criminal that was being treated as though he were Charles Manson.

I just went back and watched it for the second time. there is a gap in the video at the 1:15 mark or so. This is right before the cop on the far side starts to move on Garner. We don't know exactly what happened during the lapse.....it may have been nothing.....he may have gotten a little combative.....or it could have been that he continued to behave as he had been and that back up simply arrived.

I'm no cop, but based on what I'm seeing it doesn't appear to me that Garner's takedown was excessive. I say this based on other instances that I've seen and nothing more.

Based on the video, I can see how the choke vs submission hold occurred. The little cop wasn't tall enough to initiate the hold correctly and didn't work to better his position when Garner went to the ground. Is this enough to indict him? I don't think so.

You're probably right, but who knows. Heart attacks are strange and you never know when they're going to occur.

Well, did the "choke" render him unconscious?

Nope.

Did the "choke" damage his trachea?

Nope.

Did the "choke" damage any bones in the neck?

Nope.

Did the "choke" alone cause his death?

Nope. Nope. Nope.

Lot of nope here.

He had a severe greek goddess?

You are completely missing the point! The man was killed by the hands of the police. Whether it was due to physical force or his poor health or some combination of the two. The fact is that he died as a result of the police engagement.

Not one single argument, excuse, or plea that you make is going to change that FACT.

I think this is a hell of a lot worse.....but once again, the comment element is the victim acting like a fool....this cop deserves to be charged more so than the one involved in the Garner case IMO.....even though the guy didn't die

I couldn't really tell what was going on from that but check out the Marcus Jackson video......that's what racist bad cops look like.

I hate that the man lost his life.....nothing will ever make that ok but he lost it bc of his own bad choices.......
