Sounds like Richt

See I think Butch is opposite of Richt in that I believe Richt has not been loyal enough to his staff and one scheme at least defensively. I truly feel that is why they have not broken through.

The Oline can only get better. If they can get some good time in the weight room, work on positioning and footwork, they will improve. Also if you can get a couple of new faces to contribute, it will result in a night and day difference.

Could be. I've never seen an oline improve the amount needed to make a significant difference in the win column from one year to the next. I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it.

UF was not about bad breaks.

I agree. That game and Vandy last year was a lack of thinking outside the box. At some point Butch and Bajakian need to toss the playbook and just start throwing stuff against the wall in an effort to break through. They are too process oriented and predictable for the level of talent we had this year. They were lucky to get the Vandy win.

IMO Bajakian would have benefited greatly by implementing a wildcat option early in the year. 10-15 plays a game or so. Use Pearson or Hurd.

I though the Vandy win was a credit to the coaching staff. That's a game we lose in 2011-2013. Players had to dig deep on a night where they just didn't have it and injuries/suspensions had piled up.

Sure on some levels. On other levels had Vandy secondary not had concrete blocks for hands they would have had 4 picks. Vandy failed to capitolize and I have a hard time seeing that as some rousing testament to coaching. The positive I will provide is imo that win showed our true talent advantage which is a step in the right direction.

If we are not much better, with everything we have returning, there are issues.

Agree with this. UF won 11 games two years ago with a great defense, a rubbish offense, and a weak SEC East. No reason CBJ and team 119 shouldn't be able to manage 8 minimum.

I know McElwain said all the right things in his PC... But right now, that roster doesn't have the type of quarterback he has succeeded with. He likes the cognitive, game manager type. I don't really think treon Harris or will Grier fit his qb needs.

I won't be worried about this hire until I see his full staff. Then I still won't be probably.

I gave up on him when he pitched an absolute tantrum on twitter over girl issues a couple years ago...and proceeded to rip anyone that dared to question him.

He really, REALLY needs to get out of this market if he wants to get better. He's too close to a lot of things and I think he compensates by trying to act hyper-professional which ends up in a dumpster fire most of the time.

I missed the girl issues thing but you nailed it. He overcompensates and it makes him wayyyy too sensitive to any criticism and his overcompensation "to prove he isn't biased" just makes him biased in the other direction. I think you may be right. The best thing that could happen to him is to get out of here as obviously he's too close to too many things and it gets to him. The problem is that unless he covers the Vols from afar he'd have to rebuild all of his connections were he to go somewhere else. He's young enough to do that easily but he may not want to.

Watching the Cincy-Houston game. Cincy has put together an excellent first drive. Can anyone tell me why we don't run they're offense? Ours is very similar in that they do a lot of read options but instead of throwing bubble screens, they tend to throw 8-10 yard curl routes. I'd like to see us do this more as it makes our offense more vertical. It's seems to work well for them and while Kiel might be a better passer than Dobbs, our receivers are better than Cincy's.

Memphis put a beating on Cincy, at Cincy. Their only conference loss.

I thought the no call on time expiring on the field goal was a very bad break. JMO.

Hate to single out one player because other players need to step up, too. But the Malone drop on 3rd down was crucial. It was a first down at minimum, and there was no one behind the man he was probably going to beat.

IIRC, they tried it a couple times in a row vs UGA and it resulted in two false starts. Hadn't seen much of it since then.
