I get that we all have different opinions about this. To me, these buyouts landed us in the position we are right now.

We got very lucky to get Butch. It could have ended up in another Dooley type hire due to paying the buyout of Dooley and Fulmer at the same time. That coupled with the debacle that was Kiffin's buyout, almost ruined this program. Kiffin should have had a crazy buyout for him to leave.

Forgive me for being so pessimistic when it comes to these contracts. We have been burned on them for so long now.

One huge difference- the man who negotiated those deals isn't here anymore. The man, who is now in charge, has also merged two athletic departments and cut his spending. Now, I sometimes think that people just pile on Hamilton, but our current guy seems to understand when and when not to pay. This train is rolling in a positive direction, and we need to keep it that way. JMO.

BUT - he does have the Tyndall and Martin scenarios on his mind. Plus Holly. It has not been all roses.

We have the lowest reserve right now at about $1.8 mil. Every other SEC school has at least $14 mil. Hamilton did us no favors and he paid Pearls $980,000 buyout even though he didn't have to. With the SECN we'll start building it back up.

There was nothing he could do about Martin- he was leaving if he was offered somewhere else. I have no doubt that Tyndall was vetted, and I would think that the school has protection in that contract.

We are just a fragile fan base. That is all there is to it. I am more excited about UT football than I have been in at least 4 years, maybe more. I don't want that to change.

I will say it again. As mush as us fans think it is, salary is not all about the coach's won-loss record. It simply isn't. There are MANY things that go into it. Do you want Derek Dooley as an employee or do you want Butch Jones as an employee?

It is also like investing in a stock: you are putting money into it knowing enough about it. But, you expect the company to make money and keep growing and at some point in the future, you will be rewarded.

Sorry I just had too....:birgits_giggle:

I have been of the opinion that CBJ should not be paid more than 3.25 for his body of work at UT this far. After some serious thinking today I am ready to adjust that. I am willing to go to 3.50 with the understanding that he takes that 250 grand and reinvests it back into "winning" by adding it to the 350 grand Mahoney makes and gets us another OL coach.

I also inform CBJ IF he can take UT to 9 wins in 2015, 4.25 million would be on paper this time next year.

Because if you have to fire him, then you are screwed with the buyout. If your screwed with a buyout, you can't afford a big time coach. This cycle will just continue.

That's not necessarily true. It depends on the wording and under the current contract the number of years dictates the buyout, not the base salary.

SIAP still catching up on this thread...

Joe Henderson Not Returning To Tennessee

Henderson not returning to Vols

Henderson, a Top247 Class of 2014 signee from Shaker Heights, Ohio, impressed on the practice field this season but was scheduled to redshirt in order to gain weight. The situation suddenly got wrinkled in October, though, when the NCAA pulled Henderson off the field for an academic red flag from high school that popped up late — much later than usual, for what it’s worth.

If you're the Chump, do you take less money and go to USC with the shot of becoming HC or take more money and go to Auburn?

If its me, I take slightly less to go to USC, but if its significant, I go to Auburn.

South Carolina had top 10 defenses the previous couple of seasons with Ward. The problem wasn't the DC, it was that their players are terrible.

One bad year and everyone wants his head. Smh. It was obvious the players were missing tackles and assignments and even running away from plays. What is ward supposed to do

If he's smart and thinking long term he goes to USC for slightly less and to tutor under an all time great. If he goes to Auburn it's a crap shoot if Malzhan even gives him the scheme to do what he does. That said I want the guy out of the east like the plague.

USCe IMO. Like I mentioned earlier with Spurrier likely to walk at any time, Muschump would be all set up to take over another SEC team.
