i haven't seen anyone talk about a bowl that would match up Texas A&M with Texas... perhaps the Texas Bowl. I think that would be good for college football after all the back and forth with those two recently.
Because if you have to fire him, then you are screwed with the buyout. If your screwed with a buyout, you can't afford a big time coach. This cycle will just continue.I don't think the average fan cares what Butch is paid. I don't understand why everybody here does.
It's not my money. Pay him $20 million a year for all I care, just don't word the contract so he can't be terminated if he doesn't fulfill expectations.
Also, coaching salaries are going through a period of inflation. 4 million now is what 3.5 was before the SEC network went 24/7.
While it would be great to win the bowl and go out on a high note, at this point the 15 extra practices are far, far more valuable than another win.
Speaking of which--will the coaching staff concentrate primarily on game planning for the opponent in the coming weeks, or are bowl practices more development/fundamentals and a segue to spring practice?
I follow and for now I can still see the forest despite all the trees planted. At 4 million my vision starts getting blurry. It could be one of those sour grapes contracts quick with say 6-7 wins next year. With the way our line has looked I think Butch would be jumping the shark anything north of 3.75 with fan and booster good will. Just my 2 cents.
Hopefully it will be the Belk Bowl. Better city, stadium, better for recruiting, better match up.
Just want to say this is my favorite thread. I joined up in the Gruden fun and then almost quit this site all together a few months later because I thought the FF was all there was and I got tired of the insanity.
You guys are a lot of fun to read and discuss with, and you have a (fairly) new RF convert in me. I've enjoyed the nation a lot more since I discovered this gem a few months ago. :hi:

Precisely.
I don't get it either.
Let's say, hypothetically, that UT pays Jones everything that they could afford and writes a check for something ludicrous like 20 million a year. And, let's say that after two years he doesn't work out. That salary would put you on the radar of every major coach in the U.S. when the time comes to replace him.
Conversely, let's say that UT gets Jones to work for $50,000 dollars a year, and in two years he miraculously wins a national championship. Is there an extra award given for most valuable coach per dollar? Will the rest of the football world look around and say ''Tennessee, we applaud your fiscal responsibility, thank you for being a beacon in the night"? Nope.
Not wanting to continue a rivalry when a school leaves the conference is one thing. Flat out refusing to play them in a neutral site bowl game is another.
We need results (Wins) to justify paying someone 4 million per IMO. I know he is working his butt off. Part of the reason I put us probably in the 12-15 range of programs is because we have to recruit nationally. Programs such as Florida can get in a car and visit 90% of their recruits.
If he were to win 9 games next year, pay the man. I'm just not a fan of paying a guy 4 million that is going to complete his second season with WAIT FOR IT......
THE SAME RECORD AS DOOLEY after his second year.
