Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XV

As the transition from adidas to Nike draws closer and closer, UT officials continue to be in constant contact with Nike reps for the process. Uniforms, cleats, gear, etc. all have been ordered for the football team. There's already new design implementations for some logos, with talks of having some of the Vols' retro logos reintroduced. Additionally, there are new uniform mocks for a number of sports including football and basketball.

While Nike isn't scheduled to formally become the apparel/uniform partner until July 1, 2015, the unveiling process could come a bit earlier if all parties can agree.

I know that Williams, Abernathy, Tuttle, Butcher and Jack Jones were selected for the Under Armor AA game

Tommy Townsend and Khalil McKenzie are playing in the Army AA game. A lot of Vol targets are playing in that game too like.....Ricky DeBerry, Darrin Kirkland, Van Jefferson, DeAndre Walker, and Kyle Phillips.

I'm sure I'll be struck by lightning, but I'm lukewarm to the Rifleman.

I'm all about that Power T

Pinkel would be a great hire. Get him out of here

Love THIS but the power T is the best.

Edit: The Pinkel to Michigan rumor has definite life on Twitter, but that hard to navigate Mizzou board( that was linked a few weeks ago) has not mentioned it at all that I could find.

I really would love that rumor to be true.

Anybody still okay with not winning at least 8 next year?

Chavis, I get a sense you are pushing an agenda. I think if you were king, you would get the entire fanbase to buy in on 8 wins being the number next year, and run CBJ of town immediately at the point that couldn't happen. I take it you prefer a pro style offense and less trendy music at games and really wouldn't mind UT being in coaching search mode next Christmas. Whoever we got to match your preferences would have to overhaul the roster.

For my part, the only thing that would make me worry about whether CBJ is the guy is if we are struggling for bowl eligibility again at the end of the year. If we go 7-5 and are extremely competitive in every game and lose 1 or 2 because of bad calls or key injuries, I'm fine with CBJ as coach. We play in a rough conference, our team will still be young, and above all we need stability. Our best recent memories of UT football are the late 80's and 90's and those were great in large part because of coaching stability.

Fans really undervalue the importance of stability. As much as we'd like to think so, there really isn't an objective measurement of how many wins a coach has to have in his first three years to prove he's good. I think that becomes more clear in years 4 and 5 personally, so I'm for giving CBJ time.

"Here, let me grind my ass off to pull in Top 10 classes while working hundred-hour weeks for the last 2 years attempting to coax 6 wins out of a roster made mostly of freshmen and slaw playing against veteran NFL-bound juniors and seniors just so I can uproot my family yet again for marginally more pay and repeat the process all over again at a place where they fired the guy who taught me everything I know", thought Butch Jones at no point ever.

Nailed it!

SDS had an article I posted yesterday about programs with percentage of Blue Chip recruits on their roster.

Michigan was in the top 10 with greater than 50%. Not the same as here. We are at 36% right now.

Look, I don't believe he's going anywhere and this is more than likely agent driven.

Not sure how excited Michigan fans would be but Pinkel would be a great hire for them.

I believe if Michigan fans look at how well Pinkel has done in the SEC they will be pleased to get him, especially if he brings most of his staff with him. Pinkel is from Akron, Ohio which is only about 150 miles from Ann Arbor. Pinkel would probably be happy to get in the Big 10 (or whatever it is now) where he won't have the issue of playing the SEC's grinding schedule. He is 61 years old but he should have 8-10 more years of coaching in him. Overall he would be a great catch for them and most everyone in the SECe would be happy to see him leave.

If I had to guess Butch did go to recruit Michigan for many rea$on$ but moving to Michigan wasn't one of them. Do I think Butch got vetted? Yes. I predict some gnashing of teeth when we pay him about 4million but if the buyout clause is in our favor I will not be one of them.

Hell no I don't want to face his defense yearly. Especially when paired with Spurrier's offense. You'be been huffing Pantone 151.

I'm thinking long term. Ole Spurrier will be gone in the next year or 2. Then when they let Muschump take over(tougher to recruit to USCe than UF), we own his butt.

How much are juniors and seniors? Michigans past couple of classes have been sub par

Well that makes it an easier rebuild to me if you come into a veteran/Blue Chip filled team.

My point is, the "rebuild" there is in no way compared to what he had to do here.

Gotcha. That's very true. Very few people truly understood or wanted to admit how far we fell

Really think Florida got a good one

Seems like he could be a good one. Lots of experience in the SEC, of course he was under little Nicky so who knows how you could really take that. He did turn CSU into a top Offensive team(did lose to Boise and Air Force this year). Wonder if he can recruit. Florida makes that a little easier, but he could have the Gators Offense flowing next year or after.
