mcelwain's buyout. uf pays $3 million over 6 years, mcelwain $2 million over time and ucs plays uf at home for $2 million. This is a head scratcher.

What would the numbers look like next year if we finish 5th and UF finishes around 15-20?

Actually things don't change much.

In your scenario UT would move up about a point to 11.75.

UF would move down from 8 to 8.75.

This is why recruiting one great class matters, but sustaining years of great classes is extremely important.

With a second top five class in a row, in relation to our schedule, UT's outcome based on talent predictions might change in our favor 1 game. That is proof of how hard it is to move upwards in the SEC. A third year of a top five class, assuming UF and UGA recruit about as they have been, could yield a jump to the most talented team in the east, and roughly third over-all in the SEC.

And what would you have said without a well timed Larry quote?

Look dude I get you don't believe me because it's not positive info. But I said it before Larry did. Regardless, that doesn't matter. I don't want e-cred. There's info, so I post it. There's about 10 other posters that have this info but don't post it because everyone thinks they're lying because Butch would never be interested. What would be the point in making something negative up?

In the end, this could be a big gamble for Hart. I still don't think he has the full purse strings to drop a big raise, so do you call a bluff or do you raise?

Yep... :good!:

I don't pretend to know the motivations of internet message board posters. If Butch leaves or it even comes close to that, I will fully apologize. Until then: :peace2:

I do believe there have been at least mild feelers put out there — mostly between third parties — but you’d be amazed how many times that kind of stuff happens and it never sees the light of day.

Ultimately, my belief at this point is that Jones will return to Tennessee next season with a raise and extension for himself and most of it not all of his staff. But I don’t think every day between now and then will be a worry-free day. Again, this is silly season. Coaches, like everyone else, are entitled to find leverage to make more money for themselves and those around them.

He also said he doesn't believe Butch is a top candidate, but coaching searches rarely result in the first or second target getting the job.

Rucker posted that minutes ago. So there ya go.

Got a few texts asking me what's going with Butch Jones. My answer is the same as it was 2 months ago. He ain't going anywhere.

If Butch somehow leaves, Hart and Cheek need to be immediately fired

He's not leaving. This is the same as the Freeze to Florida nonsense which just happened to coincide with Freeze's contract being re-negotiated at OM. People are making mountains out of nothing more than an agent and our AD negotiating a salary increase here at UT. Pre-internet all of this would've been done without us hearing a word about it.

You guys are being short sighted. Sometimes you overpaying saves you money in the long run. An extra 500k a year is nothing compared to replacing your entire coaching staff. Remember he would essentially take the staff with him if he left

The landscape is changing - if we lost Butch to Michigan - to get anyone decent will easily cost 3.5 as we have just seen with Florida -- and we would have to pay a huge buyout and on top of that - there really isn't anybody decent out there. Just ask Nebraska.

Look Butch is the guy - Hart needs to get this done - it should already have been done.

Go back and look. I've always said I believe he's using this as leverage. If he doesn't get what he wants, then it becomes real

In this case, you raise! With his recruiting ability, we are sitting on an open-ended straight flush after the flop. Good chance you are going to hit a really good hand on the turn or river. Don't fold it now.

SN: I am not a gambler any. Just know the game of poker a little.
