Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Well, he said that UT is his dream gig.

And according to many on here, CBJ is above reproach.

Thus, how can there by any concern re him bolting for UM?

You always bring the "reproach"...your "concern" is that he stays.

I think the term "dream job" is kind of misleading for most. I would say that yes UT is a dream job for most lower tier conference coaches. I mean look at what you are getting. I wouldn't say that it defines the actual location as much as everything else that goes with it. I am sure most lower tier conference coaches dream of having unlimited funds, top of the line facilities, and a great fan base. So in a sense that is probably what most coaches mean by the term "dream job". Would the UM job interest Jones? Yes I am sure it would. Would it be the "dream job"? Who knows. Does he view a job of doing exactly what he has had to do at UT as a dream again? Does he want to go through having little success on the field for 2-3 years and having fans scrutinize every detail of everything that happens again?

I would be shocked if anyone from Michigan ever planned to make an actual offer to Butch Jones. There are so many candidates out there who would make more sense and be an easier sell to your fanbase. We're talking about a guy who can't get above .500 in a major conference. An offensive coach who just fielded the 103rd ranked offense. And a guy you would have to pay around 3.5/4 million a year in addition to paying a large buyout. I'm not even sure Mike Hamilton would go for that. I am sure he wouldn't be one of the first guys he called. That makes no sense.

Dont think michigan fans would have the patience for the way butch would have to build michigan

I belive butch though. He doesn't seem to be slime ball. Everybody knew saban was a liar and that he had talked to bama.

And as we always find out, wins matter more than words. When Butch starts winning, the torches from the "best coaching staff in America" and the "2-4 wins was never predicted" mobs gets extinguished.

Kiffin didn't use USC to get a raise. He left because that was his dream gig. I could see Michigan being Butch's dream gig.

Because he coached there? Because he's an alumni? No, there is no connection between Butch and Michigan other than he grew up in the state of Michigan. Eastern Michigan could be his dream job with the logic you're using.

I just heard that Butch Jones will not accept the Michigan Job and will stay at Tennessee. So there. That's the end of it. Now everybody get back to work.

My point is it's pretty unlikely he grew up dreaming about UT. Take off the Orange tinted glasses and come back to reality. He will go wherever he can make the most money.

I heard that Skip Bayless thinks Miles will go this time to Michigan. Do not know if he will or not. It would be a home run hire..BUT will Miles uproot his kids and family for a "lateral" move?

Lateral move at best as he has a tremendous amount of young talent on his current roster and should be one of the top teams in the west next year.

That's not true at all. If we went out and hired Mark Hudspeth from UL-Monroe (an excellent coach BTW) he wouldn't walk on that stage with a contract in hand for $3mil + guarantee it! He'd be lucky to be around $2mil.

Look at Dooley's contract, it was right in line with what other SEC coaches made. Hudspeth or anyone else hired would be the exact same.

For reference, in 2010 the salaries were like this:

Saban: 4.6
Meyer:4.0
Richt: 2.8
Peterino: 2.7
Chizik: 2.1
Dooley: 1.8
Spurrier: 2.0
Phillips: 1.7
Mullen: 1.2

Currently:
Head Coach School Salary
Nick Saban Alabama $6.9 million
Kevin Sumlin Texas A&M $5 million
Les Miles LSU $4.3 million
Steve Spurrier South Carolina $4.0 million
Gus Malzahn Auburn $3.85 million
Bret Bielema Arkansas $3.2 million
Mark Richt Georgia $3.2 million
Gary Pinkel Missouri $3.1 million
Hugh Freeze Ole Miss $3.0 million
Will Muschamp Florida $3.0 million
Butch Jones Tennessee $3.0 million
Dan Mullen Mississippi State $2.65 million
Mark Stoops Kentucky $2.2 million

Stoops and Mullen both receive raises and extensions. Jones would currently be the lowest paid SEC coach unless you count Mason which is unknown since Vandy is private. You're going to pay Hudspeth or any other candidate with a agent worth a damn 3 million.

Yeah, well apparently he got a raise, so you can quit dreaming about his departure.

Miles to Michigan makes sense. Playing in the SEC West or the Big 10. You have 4 teams in the West better than any team in the Big 10 and Ohio St. is the only team close. Much easier for a coach to be successful in that league.

I definitely don't see butch leaving, but what if. What if 2 days from now we are the one's on espn searching for a coach, that would be devastating.

The Dooley situation was different in the timing. It took more to make a coach leave at that time of year. I guarantee Hudspeth would not make more than what Butch makes. You don't pay a new guy what other experienced, tenured SEC coaches make just because that's what they make.

Hudspeth's options would be to stay at ULL and make $500k - $750k or make $2mil at UT. You offer $2mil and if he says no move on to the next guy. Once again, it's all about not overpaying and we're one of the worst at it.
