Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Michigan could hire Butch. But if you read the UM message boards that seems laughable. Definitely would not light up the fan base and that would be a critical mistake by the AD after the Hoke fiasco. Butch appears to be like another Hoke to most of their fans.

With what he has going on here if Butch were to leave it would say a lot about what kind of administration we have at UT.
We didn't want Butch here either and look what happened..

What happens when those home run guys turn down the job? Who's next? Look at Florida for example and we know how our coaching search turned out..

Coaching searches under Summer's Eve Hamilton were desperation moves rather than searches. There is a difference.

Michigan must hit a home run. They have no choice. While CBJ could be that home run, there is absolutely no guarantee. Without that guarantee they will look to Miles, Harbaugh, et al.

Butch is doing a good job so far here but I would never characterize him as a home run hire here or at Michigan. I really think Michigan fans see Butch as another Brady Hoke at best after reading their boards. The AD needs something more than that. Also remember that they still have a bad taste in their mouth over the system change that Rich Rod tried at Michigan. They want down hill smash mouth football and not the finest game.

I would be shocked if anyone from Michigan ever planned to make an actual offer to Butch Jones. There are so many candidates out there who would make more sense and be an easier sell to your fanbase. We're talking about a guy who can't get above .500 in a major conference. An offensive coach who just fielded the 103rd ranked offense. And a guy you would have to pay around 3.5/4 million a year in addition to paying a large buyout. I'm not even sure Mike Hamilton would go for that. I am sure he wouldn't be one of the first guys he called. That makes no sense.

Yea it doesn't.. He's a very good salesman even though right now he appears not to be a very good coach.. Just look at what he's selling these recruits here for Tennessee, just imagine how the interview process went when he was interviewing here for HBC. If he sells himself well and talks bout the process and brick by brick etc.. We bought in why wouldn't Michigan not buy in?

Michigan needs to hire a proven well polished coach. Especially after the experimental hires they have had since Lloyd Carr.

I have been texting with someone in Detroit this morning.

Word up there is they are going after Les Miles full force!!

Word here a couple of years ago was Gruden was a done deal. There's probably a better chance Michigan lands Miles but I'm just saying I wouldn't put much faith in what Joe Fanboy says.

Bingo we know how that has turned out here.. A few times here..

Why? You think a guy from up north really grew up with UT as his dream coaching gig?

Well, he said that UT is his dream gig.

And according to many on here, CBJ is above reproach.

Thus, how can there by any concern re him bolting for UM?

Excellent point! It's just how coaching salaries work these days.

If Butch were to leave, the next guy (no matter who it is) will make more than Butch is currently making. So the money is going to be spent 1 way or the other.

That's not true at all. If we went out and hired Mark Hudspeth from ULL (an excellent coach BTW) he wouldn't walk on that stage with a contract in hand for $3mil + guarantee it! He'd be lucky to be around $2mil.

Kiffin was born in Nebraska, did not grow up in southern California, but said many times USC was his dream job. So why can`t Tennessee be CBJ`s dream job. He said it was his dream job so I`m not gonna call him a liar.

Why do some on here think that UM is CBJ "dream job"? Just because he grew up in the North. Was he a fan of UM when he was young? Does he have any affiliation to the university what so ever?

Unfortunately, the answer is Butch Jones.

You're the guy that spews all the negative about any situation so that IF or WHEN and on the OFF CHANCE that things head "south"...you can be the guy that says... "SEE...I told you so!" You will be our hero OV! You told us ALL along that CBJ stinks.

His pitch wouldn't be as effective IMO if he left here without "completing the foundation." His preaching of a "process" and "brick by brick" wouldn't hold any water if he was to leave without fully implementing his system complete with his players.

Agree with ya there but he's laid the foundation and can do it with Michigan the same as he's done with us.. And easier possibly because recruiting is easier and a better state for recruits than Tenn. Just playing a little devil's advocate here..

I heard that Skip Bayless thinks Miles will go this time to Michigan. Do not know if he will or not. It would be a home run hire..BUT will Miles uproot his kids and family for a "lateral" move?
