Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Michigan needs to hurry. They need a coach by mid December if they want to have any kind of recruiting class......

UT was in this position less than two years ago.......

Technically, that is correct. But Michigan dollars are funding that search firm's work, so in a way, they are contacting him.

I'm trying real hard to figure out what coach could of done more with the roster Butch had the last two years. I'm sure a bunch of you might have your opinions but fact is that's all they are, opinions. I mean good gracious it was a team with no depth, no O line, and a bunch of freshmen. And they still one 6 games playing the second hardest schedule in all of college football. This roster was nearly empty when he took over. Very few of the kids he has brought in have failed to produce. He's bringing in even more talent next year. Has brought new life into the program. The media is actually talking about us again. Every high school kid in the county is at the very least considering us. Two years ago we were a joke to everyone. Now nobody's laughing any more yet you think he hasn't done enough???

But what do I know? I'm just a Jr. Member of VolNation. Obviously I don't care enough about the program to have a say.

I defend your right "to have a say". No matter how close, or how far, from the UT campus we live.....we all carry those First Amendment rights with us.

Let other people have their opinions without griping about the expression. They'll have more of a reason to respect yours.

"One name we've heard a few times on the trail is Tennessee head coach Butch Jones. Two different sources we've talked to say that he would be very interested in the Michigan opening if they reciprocated it to him and one of those sources even said those on his behalf have put out feelers towards the Wolverines to gauge that interest. It's unclear how much interest Michigan would have in Jones at this point; right now, any other candidate. Note: Despite the FootballScoop report this morning on Jones telling Michigan "no" already, I talked to one source in the area that says they'd be "very surprised" if that was the case at this early a juncture."

From an article by Steve Lorenz of the Michigan 247 site.

We wouldn't be having discussions like these if we had people on the staff that actually had ties to the university. Surely there are enough coaches out there at this point with UT ties that could come home, recruit and coach well. We've got 2 or 3 guys down at FSU doing wonders, and Tee has done a pretty good job. If CBJ walks, let's bring some guys home and do this the right way.

all these goobers that dont care if he leaves better think twice - Hart will never make a home run hire to replace him and could very well hire another clown like Dooley

One question and I'll leave you to ponder this:
What is better for the program financially, keep Butch Jones at slightly higher pay OR make another hire for probably the same amount?

Let me just say if UT lets Jones leave for a few hundred thousand a year then the AD would likely lose a lot more than it would save financially. I know that won't be understood by most on here though.

This matches the 247 report from a few months ago (unless it's the same article). God help us.

Excellent point! It's just how coaching salaries work these days.

If Butch were to leave, the next guy (no matter who it is) will make more than Butch is currently making. So the money is going to be spent 1 way or the other.

Well I would hate for UT to have to go through a another freaking coaching search in less than 3 years and we are just now getting things moving in the right direction on the field and in recruiting. This would be a major blow to our program. UT needs to pony up!

""I think y’all know how I feel,” Jones told reporters on Oct. 28th" (knowxnews.com).

the guy we need to hire is Butch's agent. He's the one who has "reached out" and pursued all the previous coaching stops. That's where all the "plausible deniability" comes in. Coaches can claim no contact because it's been the agents who have handled that aspect of "wooing".

Before the end of his previous gigs, Butch's agent was beating the yellow brick road for the next rung. All Butch had to do was proclaim the love for his team and his desire to "be here for life", then wait for the negotiations to become the interview. I believe CBJ has found the place he can park for a while but, WHEN, not if, the next gig is more attractive, his agent will be all over it.

No, Butch's cell phone didn't ring from anyone at Michigan. That's not how these things are done. There are many layers involved.

I'm surprised Butch hasn't been named in the Nebraska search as well. I don't think he goes anywhere, but this is the time coaches get raises. Ole Miss's coach just got a nice bump because of UF's search.

Exactly. Butch hasn't been contacted by anyone. It's Butch's agent and UM's search firm, etc. doing all the preliminary fact finding. I doubt Butch spoke with Hart directly until the day before he arrived in Knoxville. I don't know that, for certain, but these things move quickly at the end.

Yep. 0 loyalty to this program for the long term. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he's now recruiting 3 QB's for the next class. If he splits then he could take 1 or 2 to Michigan. I think he's another guy like Urban that realized how tough the SEC really is.

Michigan must hit a home run. They have no choice. While CBJ could be that home run, there is absolutely no guarantee. Without that guarantee they will look to Miles, Harbaugh, et al.

Kiffin didn't use USC to get a raise. He left because that was his dream gig. I could see Michigan being Butch's dream gig.

I really do want to believe CBJ but we've been burnt before..all the naysayers that say he isn't a great coach I say not yet but he will be once the pieces are in place..and if he does bolt it's another hard blow to deal with, esp with our psyche fan base and just how it would kill us mentally..

With that being said and we all know that.... I just hope he's a man of his word and really loves this place like he says he does..

Michigan could hire Butch. But if you read the UM message boards that seems laughable. Definitely would not light up the fan base and that would be a critical mistake by the AD after the Hoke fiasco. Butch appears to be like another Hoke to most of their fans.

With what he has going on here if Butch were to leave it would say a lot about what kind of administration we have at UT.

What happens when those home run guys turn down the job? Who's next? Look at Florida for example and we know how our coaching search turned out..
