My guess is CBJ won't bolt. I also think a solid raise is justified.

I'm in the minority I'm sure, but I actually thought the Vandy win was a sign of tangible progress for our program, which is a credit to CBJ. That was basically a replay of the type of game we kept losing each year (UK 2011, Mizzou 2012, Vandy 2013) against inferior opponents that was among the things that was holding us back. I was afraid the whole game that the team was going to collapse again, but they fought through adversity and won. I saw it as getting over another mental and emotional hump of sorts for the program. Every team has an off week, and this time it didn't kill us. Championship teams and programs win those types of games.

I also think we are primed to explode back on the national scene next year. Losing CBJ would set us back yet again...

That middle part is how I view the Vandy game as well. Finding the ways to win ugly games. UGA fans wish they had that this year.

Butch is not even one of Michigan's top 3 choices. Trust me. I'm not saying he isn't someone they'd consider but he's much farther down their list of potential HC's than some are leading you to believe. And I'll leave it at that.

I don't think he's even on their serious list. Just goes to show you the power of social media. One website posts an unconfirmed article, people tweet about it, the media runs with it, it's presented as fact on public forums and suddenly people believe it's true.

Many on here will not believe I said this, but I agree 100%. That's a reflection on the roster he has recruited IMO. Its like with a parent and the kids. If you beat on them all the time and go negative every chance you get, they stop listening and stop trying to do what you want. That's what happened to this team with each passing year of Dools. Sunseri was also not Mr. Happy Sunshine at any time, as well as being incompetent as a DC. But a good parent ladles out the good stuff as well as holding the kids accountable. That's a real family - and it works. They learn to listen and believe in what the parents are saying. That's where the team is right now. The mental side is covered, now it's depth and development.

All I ask is that Butch finds a LT that can get the job done next year and that he takes Jake and Mahoney to the woodshed for a major adjustment in their thinking in the off season.

If you have to overpay for Butch you do it. Tennessee football cannot afford to lose another head coach at this point in time.

Agreed. Overpaying him by $500,000 to even $1 million per year is nothing compared to the potential disaster that would occur if he left.

The 2015 class would implode and the program would be barely more attractive now than it was in 2012...and then we'd be hoping we could find another Butch Jones.

I would really, really like to be Butch Jones' agent. The man hasn't been offered anything, has said he isn't going anywhere and yet, people are dying to throw money at him out of rampant paranoia based on no facts whatsoever. Volnation has jumped the shark.

Tried to tell that to the FF..

Didn't believe me.

Butch isn't going anywhere. Didn't Dave Hart say recently this was prob the best job of coaching he's seen from this staff this year of all the places he's been?

We were the only school in FBS returning zero starters on both lines, which is almost unheard of. Not to mention playing one of the toughest schedules in all of cfb while playing 24 true Fr as well as all the injuries we suffered throughout the season with limited depth.

Also, Butch and staff are relentless in recruiting and Butch may invest just as much if not more into recruiting than anyone else on the staff. He's not just the "closer." He's on the road as much as everyone else on staff.

He has repaired relationships that have been fragile for quite a while with the academic people on campus and, imo, truly has everyone at UT, whether directly involved with the football program or not, buying into the One Tennesse slogan.

He has put in too much work bringing this program out of the dumpster fire it was in on so many levels to walk away now for a little more money somewhere else. The foundation is laid for a great run. Butch knows it, Dave Hart knows it, I can see it, and unless you're blind every Vol fan should see it too.

I feel very confident Dave Hart will restructure Butch's contract well enough so that Butch knows he'll be taken care of down the road when this program explodes back onto the scene very soon. He may not get a huge raise and it's likely Mich could easily offer him more, but he knows what's coming after all the time he's put in laying this very solid foundation.

Yeah, I can see why people think he doesn't deserve a huge raise after a 6-6 season. Sry but 6-6 is a helluva job considering what he was working with on the field and what he's done behind the scenes off the field that people don't see. JMO

Thank you. Great post, absolutely wonderful post.

The problem with over paying for a HC(say 4 million dollars) who is coming off 5-7, and 6-6 seasons is what happens next year if he wins 8 games? Does he go to 5 million? I mean if there was improvement you have to compensate him for it. What happens if he wins 9 games in 2016? Does he go to 5.5 or 6 million? Anyone looking at it with common sense would say you just can't do that. Throwing money at mediocre results is partly why they are in the shape they are.

It happens everywhere.

Just watched the Jimmy Valvano speech again for about the thirtieth time and sat here shedding tears once again. Found out today that a longtime friend has liver cancer and that he will learn about what his treatments will be next week. I did my best to encourage him by telling him how I handled my chemo in 2000-2001 and that I'm proof that it does work. I know for a fact that much of what Valvano said in that speech is true.

Butch isn't going anywhere. If he did he may be the dumbest person ever to leave this roster and recruiting class for that dumpster fire Hoke is leaving.

If he did leave, this job is soooooooo much more attractive now than 2 yrs ago. A big time coach would jump all over the opportunity to inherit this roster and recruiting class and be labeled a legend. Butch did all the dirty work

Y'all need to calm down with this raise business.

Fact: every school in the SEC makes more TV money now than Texas and ND.

If yall want a coach to leave, don't pay him what the market calls for. Freeze is making 4 million per now. Schools in the SEC are paying big bucks.

It does? A lot of schools are bumping 5-6 win coaches to 4-5 million a year?

Nebraska just fired a coach they were paying 3 million a year for winning only 9-10 games a year.

Do I give CBJ a small bump in pay? I would(250 grand taking him to 3.25). That's it. Rewarding a coach a quarter million dollars for winning 6 games IMO is pretty strong. He gets UT to 8-9 wins next year, IMO Hart has no issue in making it an even 4 million at that point.

I don't like asking for things, but will you all please pray for my family. Someone in my immediate family has just been diagnosed with cancer. Thanks guys.

Do you have proof it will be 4-5.

No you don't. It will be in the 3.5 range which is close to average for this league. Quit inciting a riot on here with this.

Freeze has been at Ole Miss a year longer than Butch has been at UT. UT wins 9 games, I'd have no issue at all with the man at 4 million a year. IMO he's just not there yet.

Everyone's saying a small raise leb. 500,000 with another year. If he wins big then that's when he gets the Saban pay.
