The deed is done. Now we find out how many cows was needed for the dowry.
UF's Foley set to return to Gainesville after negotiating with top coaching candidate Jim McElwain - Orlando Sentinel

"The Coloradoan newspaper reported Wednesday UF was negotiating to reduce the buyout to $3 million, but the Sentinel's source said it's "not gonna happen" and there is substantially less wiggle room in reducing the buyout than some media have implied."

If the gators want him, they can get him...but it's gonna cost them.

The Scoop - FootballScoop
SIAP Football Scoop says that Mcelwain has informed his players that he will go to Florida

I bet we almost overpay Butch

I hope not. If you overpay him now, all it does is set you up to get burned worse later.

6 wins he gets 500,000 to 3.5/yr.
7 wins he goes to 4 million.
8 wins he is looking for 5 million.

He wins an SEC title and he'll be looking for the stadium to be named after him.

I'm hold to what I said earlier. 3.25/Yr and I'd lay it out for him. Have UT in the SEC title discussion and we'll have you at that 4 million mark.

What are you insinuating with some of these posts? Is someone coming after Butch? If he turned down Michigan, then I would think he would turn down everyone else.

It was reported he turned down Michigan. It's not final he has turned down Michigan until he signs that extension

That's only if he leverages us for an extension. Hart might call the bluff on coach with a losing record so far.

I hope the new FL coach is the new Derrick Drooley or Mason for Vandy. But at the least, they should have a dip next year. I know they have talent, but hopefully there will be a transition period that we can take advantage of.

That's why you hire HC with successful HC experience to avoid such failures. Obviously Vandy and smaller schools have to go the OC/DC route. However a traditional powerhouse program should never have to resort to hiring a losing record HC or coordinator. It's too risky to give a guy that position without a lot of experience.

We can't afford to lose him. Butch has unreal leverage.

I'm in no way advocating letting him walk, I just wouldn't call it unreal leverage. He is entitled to a modest raise, based solely upon recruiting success and creating a more competitive team.

Hart isn't stupid. He knows what Butch does all day and knows how much improvement has been done in the program. It's not just football either, Butch has made a lot of changes in overall environment among all sports. You never heard this OneTennessee stuff until he came along.

Butch has a losing record because he has played the toughest schedule in the country over the past two years accdg to the NCAA with a severely lacking roster to go to battle with.

I agree he does not have much leverage IMO at all. 6-6 and any raise IMO is being generous. Michigan wants to throw 4 million plus at the man would I be shocked if he took it? Not really. Would I want to see Dave Hart throw 4 million at him to keep him at this point? No.

This team looks a lot better on paper/roster wise than it did 2 years ago. Worse case scenario UT is looking for a coach, IMO it's a much more attractive job today.

I think the coaches deserve a little raise but not a huge one. The problem is is that CBJ and staff are in the best position because of our unstable recent past, and hart knows as much as the next guy that losing butch would be absolutely detrimental to the program and would set us back another 4-5 years.

I say you give butch a small raise but don't up his buyout too much because we still won't really know how good he is until after next year, the raises should go too assistants and staff. If butch's most trusted staff people that have been with him since CMU ala CMB, CDM, CZA, CME and CSS are happy and don't wanna leave I don't think its necessarily a huge reason for butch to stay but I think it would be just enough to keep him till next year where we should the real progress.

He already said he wasn't taking the job. Just because some website made him the 3rd favorite doesn't mean he is looking to peace out all the sudden.

That's not why I brought this topic up. Because if some website. I'll leave it at that

That is where I am with it. IMO 250,000.00 for Butch and a 10% bump for each assistant and we'll see what happens next year.

I wouldn't want us to be looking for a new coach this year, even with a better team (on paper). Lots of high profile teams looking for coaches and our money situation isn't as good as some others yet.

Ummm and getting to a bowl for the first time in 4 years.

This is true. I'll be as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs if Butch still hasn't signed an extension after Harbaugh and Miles turns down Michigan.

Butch may or may not be the long term answer here but we cannot go through ANOTHER coaching change right now.
