Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

I still do not think they would be interested. His resume is not as good as Hoke's. Was probably a call to see if he was interested in interviewing which does not mean that he would have ever been offered the job.

Do multi-million dollar D1 programs ask coaches about their interest to interview if that program is not seriously considering them for the job?

If South Carolina hadn't been such an abomination defensively we'd be home for Christmas again.

But they were and we took advantage of it and now we aren't. I guess that win just doesn't count because they were so bad. I guess that national championship doesn't count because FSU was using a backup QB. Stupid. Your shtick is unbelievably old and tiring.

And furthermore, if our offense was clicking in the Florida and Georgia games like it was in the SC game, we win those.

The hypotheticals like that work in both directions. There's a reason they actually go out and play the game on the field.

Jones really does not deserve a raise unless he brings in another top 5 class. We beat one decent SEC team, the Gamecocks, and they were down this year. Just not impressed with the record or the game against Vandy.

If whatever happened with AJ didn't...then I could just as confidently hypothesize we have 7 wins playing for 8 with a bowl.

Sorry I don't believe the story. I do think Jones will get a raise and he probably deserves it. His salary is towards the bottom in the SEC. There is almost no way that I could see Michigan reaching out to him at this point though. As far as I know they don't even have an AD in place yet. I could see maybe a booster putting out a call to his agent to gauge interest but I don't see anyone landing at the Mich job until they have an AD in place unless that coach's name is Harbaugh.
You are dead wrong. Michigan has hired an insider as interim AD and his job is to find a football coach without a search firm. When your facts stink you have no credibility.

Bottom Line is CBJ is the absolute best football coach UT could have at this present time. He sells out games with a sub .500 football team and brings in the recruits. If it takes an extension and raise to keep him, then we better bring the $$$. If he were to leave, UT would be irrelevant for a decade+.

Omg....he was hired to do exactly what he is doing.. Its not like we r undefeated.. He beat 6 teams that sux n lost to every ranked team he faced..

Geez..this is tn BTW in case you haven't noticed.

Yeah I wouldn't consider the Cocks to even be decent

No but the agents do. I would like to know who Butch talked with at Michigan. Then you have a story.

Perhaps you should get your facts straight. He said "So called experts" said that. He was dismissing some wannabe football coaches/critics/negavols.

A bowl game after a 4 year drought? I think that's worthy of a slight raise.

You should listen for yourself, he never said "so called", he said "by the experts". He sounds anything but dismissive in his comment.

Although I don't have much trust in the accuracy of FootballScoop, I don't believe CBJ is going anywhere. However, just in case the unimaginable happens again (i.e. Kiffin), does anyone have any idea of possible HC candidates? I know I will get flamed for this, but I think it's worth discussing (and please for God's sake no Gruden references).

I didn't know he bought tickets. I thought our awesome fan based sold out games. Hats off to the fans. Couldn't disagree more about if he left and a decade of irrelevance. Now it would be stupid to fire him until year 4 or 5 if we suck. But the if he left he did stock pile the talent and the sece is wide open. We wouldn't be anywhere the level of talent when drooley got axed. Any coach would see that. Anyway small bump in pay don't get carried away until year 3 or 4 has been coached.

I appreciate your desire to start a topic.

But just no.

There is ZERO reason to talk about who we would want as a coach as long as the one that we have is still there.

Conjecturing only hurts people, and does no good.

IF something were to happen, we'll talk about it...(Please God, no).

But until then, let's not have threads like this. This is one year we DON'T have to have this discussion.

Let's enjoy that.

Here are my 5

Paul Johnson
David Cutcliffe
Hugh Freeze
Willie Fritz(Georgia Southern)
Bob Petrino

Freeze jut got a huge pay raise, so I don't see that happening. Even though I have been against it in the past, if CBJ bolts for UM, then it may be time to give Cutcliffe his shot. hard to argue with his results at Duke.

It's unthinkable because there is no program out there who would be willing to pay Butch Jones what we are currently paying him.

I don't see us going 8-4 next year, but if we did, there's a good chance we'd be in Atlanta next year. SECe is bad.

I do. It's two games with more talent and better depth. We get arky and not ole miss. Regardless of what you think about arky, we should have the d line to compete with their uglies next year and we have to solid rbs.

Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech usually runs the option type offense. Won't be popular here.

Cutcliffe is too old to desire a coaching move.

Freeze is looking to go to a job that is easier to win at than Ole PIss and U.T. is not a place where winning is easy. Florida or Georgia with easy recruiting areas would be better for him.

Petrino is untrustworthy and to hire him shows desperation on the part of our program.
