Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Not sure he really needs a raise or extension. Far too soon. Look at Muschamp. Need at least 3 years to know.

Some of y'all knuckle draggers will not be quiet either way. I think he deserves a slight pay increase. He fielded a very competitive team comprised mostly of Freshmen and he improved the APR.

He said no.

Report: Michigan contacted Jones about coaching job - GoVolsXtra Story

My brother also told me this morning that Sports Talk said to expect good news regarding CBJ today. I'm guessing contract extension and raise. Well deserved.

Expect Nebraska to show interest and also Florida. As more coaches move around this off season, bUTch will be called more often.
For instance, for instructional purposes, let's imagine that Freeze leaves Ole Piss. Well, Ole Piss might want to talk to bUTch, etc. etc.

Congrats, beat three trashy teams and the annual two games against Kentucky and Vandy. That leaves you seven games to win one of significance.

If South Carolina hadn't been such an abomination defensively we'd be home for Christmas again.

Michigan may be in a worse place than we were in 2012. Only a moron would want to do that

It looks like Michigan will go through a cycle like we have been going through from 2008 - now. Brady Hoke was their Dooley.

It is cold up there. There is a big population shift in America now. Many northerners are moving to the south. Better weather. Less taxes. More jobs. Few Liberal Democrats in office in the south. More freedoms. Less crime.

This only makes it more difficult to recruit up there. Less high school athletes but still the same amount of programs seeking them.

Southern kids usually don't want to go up north to play ball in the cold.

If this is true, I have to wonder how many coaches have already turned Michigan down. I cannot imagine CBJ being THAT high on their short list.

Whether you can imagine it or not - I would think he would be very high on their list. You might get used to it - he will be a very hot commodity after next year and on fire the year after.

Someone smart on their end made the call - someone smart on our end is working on an increase and an extension.

Florida isn't going to hire a coach who couldn't beat the guy they just canned. Only Tennessee does that.

Sorry I don't believe the story. I do think Jones will get a raise and he probably deserves it. His salary is towards the bottom in the SEC. There is almost no way that I could see Michigan reaching out to him at this point though. As far as I know they don't even have an AD in place yet. I could see maybe a booster putting out a call to his agent to gauge interest but I don't see anyone landing at the Mich job until they have an AD in place unless that coach's name is Harbaugh.

I can't believe it there are actually folks on here who would have been happier if Tennessee didn't go to a Bowl game. The legion of the miserable is endless on Volnation.

For Michigan, they are in the "feeler" phase of a potential coaching search. They are reaching out to find information on who might or who might not be interested in a potential vacancy. I can not imagine Michigan not wanting to contact CBJ and seeing his level of interest. It works out great for the coach (Hugh Freese for instance) since they typically receive a nice bump in pay. I firmly believe CBJ wants to coach in the best Conference against the best coaches. My only concern would be a potential NFL suitor 3-5 years from now. That would be a difficult decision for a coach trending upward like CBJ. Regardless, he will be on The Hill for years to come and bringing on the excitement like we haven't seen in sometime. GBO

I appreciate what Coach Jones has done here but I dont think a raise and extension are warranted yet. If a raise and extension are given and things get rocky over the next few years then Dave Hart (if he's still around) would have painted himself into a corner.

Ole Miss has made a new contract to keep Hugh Freeze according to the Coaching Rumor website.

I hope UM has a homerun hire. I hate seeing Urban sit up in the Big 10 and cruise that easy schedule every year. I despised OSU before he got their so now it adds more fuel to the fire

Actually based on the reporting on 104.5 in Nashville he was number 2 directly behind Harbaugh. So I'd say that is pretty high up on the short list.

When was the last time that UT beat both Kentucky and Vanderbilt in the same season?

I get what you are saying, but ignoring the reality of the trough that UT has slopped through and devaluing the improvement is far too dismissive.

Isn't it interesting how many VN contributors are on record saying that Michigan wouldn't be interested in Jones.:whistling:

I still do not think they would be interested. His resume is not as good as Hoke's. Was probably a call to see if he was interested in interviewing which does not mean that he would have ever been offered the job.

The legion of the miserable is getting ready to disappear in quietness over the next couple of years. Oh, they'll rear their ugly heads to complain BC we lost to Bama, or barely won the SECCG, or if we lose in one of the playoff rounds.
Its a way of life that some have been steeped in from birth. No way they will throw such a gift away, when their are so many quarterbacks needing to be benched and coaches to be fired.
