I don't think some of you get it

I guarantee most of the people complaining are the ones who picked us to go 5-7 or 4-8. That's the way it always is.

We're bowl eligible. That's a huge positive. We looked crappy tonight despite winning the game. That's a negative. Somewhere between the sunshine pumpers and the negavols is an accurate middle willing to see things for what they are. We took a big step today, but we still have a long way to go.

Butch's contract is up in 2016 right? If in two more seasons he ain't doing anything then maybe we can put him on the block. For now, I'd say he's doing fine. It's been awhile since we have had back to back top 5 recruiting classes and been bowl eligible.

To be perfectly honest, if we're at a point where we can lay an egg and still get the W I'd say we are progressing at least a little.

This^

We replaced both lines, had a killer schedule, had crucial injuries, had the captain of the team get suspended, and we are going to a bowl game. Tonight was ugly and we limped through the finish line, but what do you expect when you have backup guards playing tackle.

Give Butch some time.

I expect Vandy not to get constant pressure on Dobbs or penetration on most running plays with 3-4 down linemen being blocked by 5 O linemen.

Last night was pathetic by the O line and if you don't get that, then all the time in the world won't help you.

I don't think you get it. The worst vandy team in modern history just went toe to toe with us for 4 quarters.

And much better Tennessee teams have played a lot worse against inferior Vandy teams. This was their big moment and they fell short. Got it

And yet we won. Which is all that matters. Lighten up.

Oh, I am happy with the win.

Far too many people on here tend to equate a complaint on a msg board with a person's state of happiness.

Looking forward to the bowl game. Not looking forward to a similar performance from the O line against a better team than Vandy in the bowl game.

The staff has a lot of work to do with the O line.

Excellent post, thank you!

They earned a participation trophy. 80 teams play in bowls--your team has to be BAD to not qualify for a bowl.

Wrong perspective. Going to a bowl is a quantifiable step on the right direction. It is evidence of improvement, which is helpful in recruiting. It also provides additional opportunities for practice, which aid improvement. It also provides additional media exposure, which helps recruiting. It also provides us another game to enjoy. So the difference in going bowling and not going bowling is huge.

I will agree with the statement that your team has to be subpar to not make a bowl if you're playing Ohio State's schedule or in a smaller conference. When I look at who Tennessee has played this year, when they've played them and the state that our team is in (starting tons of freshmen, patchwork O-Line etc.) I think it's an accomplishment to make a bowl.

Please.

In 1997, a 2-8 Vanderbilt team came into Neyland and played against Peyton Manning and the #3 Tennessee Volunteers. We only won 17-10. Vanderbilt has a tendency to play us tough.

Don't say this...anything that makes sense....these morons don't want to hear this.....its more fun to complain how we barely beat a horrible Vandy team......didn't Mizzu have a tough time with Vandy too?
Read the original post....if you do not get that.....just leave....like forever!

Me, too. While I'm glad we won, glad we're bowl eligible, glad the players were so excited last night at getting their 6th win, I'm incredibly disappointed with their performance vs a lowly vandie.

It could have easily been a lost game over a very over matched opponent.

You won't find any posts of me on here complaining last week much over the loss to Missouri.

They are a good, well coached team and deserved to win with 1 and possibly 2 first round picks on the D line. I don't think Vandy has a 1st round pick in their program right now that I can think of off hand.

Vanderbilt has been pathetic and I don't care what the past records were under Fulmer.

This team showed the same as those Fulmer teams last night, overlooking an opponent and scraping by when they have a chance to make a statement.

Instead, we get a center who can't snap the ball, wide receivers who can't get open down field, guards who can't decide who to hit on the D line, a QB who gets pressured into some awful throws, and atrocious fundamentals from the entire O line but in particular the tackles who display some of the worst footwork in the SEC.

I wouldn't take too much from the game last night.. I knew that was going to be a grinder of a game.. We're beat up, missing half of our offense, and depth really showed up late in the year. Vandy was ready to play because they hate Tennessee. Rivalry games are sometimes tight games no matter how much better one team is compared to the other. A lot of tight games yesterday. Just be happy we got bowl eligible. This team will benefit from the extra practice time and it should help recruiting as well.

Just win baby win. Wasn't pretty, but we're in a bowl game. We have a month to prepare. We will figure something out to deal with whoever we're playing. Limping through the finish line is okay.

With you 100%.

They didn't go toe to toe with us. We were ahead for about 49 minutes.

They didn't? They had more total yards and were within one possession of us for the majority of the game, including at the end.......with inferior players.

Well said.

Hard to understand (and tolerate) the complainers.
