Why did the cops ask Vol fan to sit down last night?

Guess where this came from.

In the spirit of sportsmanship, fans shall:

Conduct themselves in a manner that represents UT, the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA with honor, dignity and respect.
Demonstrate qualities of civility and sportsmanship at all times.
Not use vulgar, abusive, racist, sexist, demeaning, or intimidating language at any time.
Support the players, coaches and officials in a positive manner.
Treat the visiting team, coaches and fans with courtesy and respect at all times.
Not engage in cheers that are vulgar, crass or demeaning.
Refrain from throwing objects onto the floor for any reason.
Not become inebriated or belligerent.
Refrain from entering playing and team areas at any time, including the game.
Be a positive role model for those around you by treating others with courtesy and respect!

Buying a ticket and entering the stadium indicates you agree to the terms and rules.

If you truly are located in Oregon, isn't standing in Neyland a moot point for you? If you did not go to school at UT, possibly you have never had the opportunity to talk back to a southern police officer. In my day,I have bailed out a few friends who did. :hi:

So no chance I went to UT and then moved to Oregon eh?.Cause that would be impossible.

I am an usher in the stadium. Whether it is liked or not, the person has a right to stand as long as he is not standing on the seat. The cop had no jurisdiction to make him sit, and the usher of that section should have told the officer to leave him alone. If the cop continued the issue, a stadium supervisor should have asked him to move on. I agree that there should be consideration for those who sit around you if you stand, but he really does have the right to stand up for the entire game. The police were out of line.
I know of other ushers who would not agree with you. I stand and cheer at times when the whole stadium is cheering and will stand up if the person in front of me does the same so I can see the play. But, you would probably be one of the baby ushers who let guys rant with f you and f everyone else around all the kids because he has a right to that as well. You sir are a disgrace to ushers in the world. I will just go stand in front of your sorry butt so you can't see either.

I'm so glad my row is on the front of our section and I don't have to worry about this debate anymore.

Yes, that would be the case. Glad to see it's finally beginning to sink in.

Yea. The cop could also write you a ticket for disobeying a lawful order and probably disturbing the peace. While everyone else is enjoying the game, you are off on the side rattling off your address and SS# to some moron cop and scheduling a court date. Hope it was worth it.

No they did not, but they probably could if they wanted.

No. They couldn't. If he was drunk, yes. Cops can't just arrest you for no reason. They do have to show in court. Do it too much and they'll end up regulating standing and sitting at UT football games.

Google "disobeying a lawful order". Read. Take asprin for headaches, midol for cramps.

Hello. I was sitting in section K last night and a Vol fan about four rows in front of me was standing up and cheering for the Vols. The guy behind him politely asks him if he would sit down. He then says I am a VFL and cheering for my team. The fan then gets the cops to ask that man to sit down and he pleads his case to the cops saying he is cheering for his team. I had no problem with this man standing and cheering for the Vols. So why did the cops ask him to sit down? Didn't that man have the liberty of standing up and cheering for Tennessee? Thank you for your time.

I totally blame obama

So to be clear, you dismiss all police, judges, and anyone involved in the legal process as uncaring morons while willfully surrendering your rights? Makes perfect sense.
