The players and coaches need the fans to have their backs too. Everyone knows what the last years have done to our beloved football team. It isn't going to turn around in one or two years. It is going to take 3, 4, or even 5 years to fix all the damage. The above statement was Butch telling the UT players, fans, and potential recruits, "I got your back!". How will we tell Coach Jones that, "We got your back Coach!"? I for one am going to try to go to as many games as I can and cheer as loud as I can for 60 minutes until my throat hurts.

Not disagreeing with you, but to be honest, he said the same type of stuff to the Cincinnati players.

Butch Jones agent has 2 weeks to get money talks going before we know for certain if we even have a chance of being bowl eligible or worse we aren't. While odds may be good to make a bowl it isn't certain. His appeal to an average Michigan booster if he did fail to make a bowl this year are lower than if he does. Play the odds now squeeze the orange and see if Michigan doesn't make an even bigger play if they are serious.

If you guys are Hart do you try to start contract talks with Butch now or do you wait and see how the season and the Michigan search goes.

I let him know I'm happy with the progress and he will be taken care of after the season. 1) Michigan isn't gonna do anything till after the season 2) it allows Butch to concentrate on making a bowl 3) it allows me to continue to evaluate Butch the rest of the season.

I would wait to see how the season plays out but if Butch gets this team to a bowl, he better start ASAP. If Butch wins out AND makes it to a bowl AND wins it, Hart needs to move that much faster just to be safe. Make sense? Not sure how else to word it.

This fan base and program can not afford another coaching change. We NEED stability. Besides, let him keep recruiting and fill up the roster with great players then if need be we can change coaches and leave the next staff in much better shape.

I don't disagree. Just a bunch of what if's is all we're discussing, Cat.

FWIW, I believe that Butch will stay for a very long time, just joining in the discussion because I'm bored. :)

He's doing a great job recruiting and that's the first step. That said, shouldn't we wait for more on field production before we decide that?

If you are sold, fine. I don't think I'm being unreasonable though.

Recruiting is the first step and winning ball games is the next step. Once Butch does the later, he has it made. Only a matter of time before that happens.

I totally agree with this but that said you might pay less now than later. Will be interesting to see how Hart plays it.

I agree. I think if UC would have gone to the ACC he probably would have stayed.

I agree.

If I'm Hart I am not even discussing more $$ till UT is in a bowl game. Making it to a bowl game would get CBJ IMO about a 500,000.00 bump in pay and an extension. Win the bowl game and secure a top 5 class and I might bump him to 3.75/year and give him some $$ to spread around to the assistants. No bowl game and I'm not cutting a check for anything. JMO

I could hire a heck of a recruiting coordinator for 3 mil a year. Just saying. Pay increases have to be tied to winning at this point.
