I think kiffin and saban found a loophole that they could exploit. They kept using it because it is not against the rules yet. Key word is yet. It will be another rule eventually.
Wish we had rules made because we exploit a loophole rather than because we are being exploited.

I'd say they're working on that one for the recruiting numbers. Still mindboggling how we sign as many as we do....

Re: "http://www.chatsports.com/michigan-w...-Job-10-2-5780

Scale of 1-10 how much bologna is this?"

Could be someone wants to hurt CBJ with Team 118 heading into USCe and with recruits....

Any coach that is from Michigan or that has ever played or coached in the state is fair game by sports writers or commentators to be a candidate for the job. In reality they will be looking for someone with a high profile name and a winning record. My guess would be that their next coach will have no real connections to the state.

Butch Davis has to be pretty much "un-hireable" after this UNC academic scandal.

he already got fired over it but Things were obviously much worse on his watch than anyone imagined.

I remember reading an article about this and he was cleared. The problem existed before him and now continues. He is getting long in the tooth.

I'll not be surprised if Butch Davis and Bobby Petrino are on Michigan's short list for coaches.

Petrino said he would never leave Louisville he was so thankful to get the job. He told them to add some crazy poison pill buyout clause to his contract. So he probably isn't going anywhere.

UT/Meeechigan situations over the last decade have been difficult to comprehend. My non-expert opinion is that UT's is well on its way to being resolved. Not so much for Meeechigan. Both schools hired a highly regarded coach from a school that was a step or so down. However, Butch went long term while Brady went short term. Butch did not adapt his system to his roster and immediately and started recruiting to the system's needs. Brady adapted his system to his roster to get better results in the W column to satisfy the fan base, which sent a mixed signal to the potential recruits. Result: Butch is blowing Brady out in recruiting, which will obviously resulting in a much brighter long term picture for our Vols.

Had Butch adapted like Brady last and this season, the W's would have been enough to ensure bowl games IMO. Instead he stuck to his process, which a few of us on here believe was the deal he cut with Hart during the original interview/discussions. Speaking of grassy knolls, this extends to who plays and when, which has been very obvious and is why you get Butchspeak when it comes to not announcing to the world a player's medical condition, who is really better at a position, etc. Not really much of a conspiracy actually, every program needs sacrificial lambs and scapegoats when the new master takes over. It's just smart business. Hart and Butch are very smart businessmen. What Butch did not calculate correctly was the deeper understanding of what it takes to win in the SEC that the other participants, the fans and the media possess. He has been busy getting a better handle on that of late.

Man, I was with you until that second-to-last sentence. Do you really think any fanbase or even media has an understanding of what it takes to win in the SEC?

I agree that there has likely been an element of on-the-job training in Butch's tenure here thus far. So I get the point. But fans - even the smart ones - have only a very basic understanding of how to play in the SEC.

Yeah, I think he has like a $10 million buyout.

The text I received yesterday indicated the communications were the other way around. But this is otherwise consistent with what I heard. Tifwiw.

Still don't think he goes anywhere.

I just wanted to get some of you riled up a little bit before I posted the last part lol

"But Jones has told sources he wants to win big at Tennessee and move forward on Rocky Top."

"Still, that the Vols are coming off a brutal stretch and a tough loss to Alabama and Jones is still considered a legitimate candidate at storied Michigan lends credence to the respect Jones commands on the national college football scene."

"If the Vols win out or at least advance to postseason play, it's incredibly likely that Jones will receive a reworked contract offer with increased money."

Although that is positive, what is not stated there was that CBJ was not interested in Michigan and was not going to Michigan.

I believe Butch wants to be here for the long haul. I hope he proves me right and signs up for a long term deal after this season. I'll be crushed if he leaves.
