Not to be that guy, but I did notice quite a few odd ball spots last night during the game. I figured a few of them would be reviewed, because they were big plays in the game. One was the dive for the first down by the Bama qb, he looked like he put his arm down almost two yards short of where they marked the ball and no hint of a review.

You're 100% correct about that call. I noticed that they seemed to give Bammer a yard or two extra and UT a yard or so less. The 6 or 7 Bammer fans around me were not happy that I was screaming about Steve Shaw being over the officials and also being a Bammer grad. They didn't like it when I said to watch them get their kiss from Saban either. Needless to say I didn't care and I made sure they knew I hated everything about Bammer too. I'm old and don't care what they think about me.

Amen brother! :)

Btw, I'd use a different emoticon but on mobile right now.

This stat from Blake Ritt on Twitter is astounding:

Butch Jones has faced 10 top 10 teams in his first 20 games as UT's head coach....Urban Meyer has faced 15 top 10 teams in 127 games

Is there a more overrated coach in college football than Urban Meyer?

On the dubious Non-Beast decision you go with what you know. You know Bama is giving up 65 yards a game rushing coming in to Neyland. You know you are behind 27-7 and Cooper is having a record day. You know you have moved the ball down the field with time and TO's left to score a TD and give your team a huge lift before halftime - just 2 scores down. You do not telegraph a play like that. Trust the guys that have led your team back to this point. Then after making the bad play call, you compound it by telling your team they are not good enough to make a yard when with the real playmakers back in the game. So you kick a FG to remain 3 scores down at half time. C'mon folks, defend Butch all you want, but the rest of the nation, the announcers, and rational UT fans know the truth.

It should serve as a wake-up call to Butch and staff. Obvious errors were made in the game plan and play calling on both sides of the ball. Grow from it is all we ask. We knew this was a Big East level staff when they came in with the exception of Jancek, Martinez, Gillespie and Thig. They are doing some great things as well. However, not assigning Sutton to Cooper was a huge game planning mistake - we all knew it and many said it before the game. That's on the coaches that should know better including Butch. Not playing a QB that can run this offense the best despite not yet having full control of the passing game, while telling the fan base he was the third best option was a huge mistake. Not playing the right O-lineman in the positions they play the best, while having two true freshmen playing on the same side was a huge mistake. It cost the UF game and possibly others. All three of those mistakes were proven last night. Now fix it the right way the rest of the season and get better. W's matter to the program and they are more important than a perception of process.

I still believe Butch can get it done.

Do you ever get sick of saying the same thing over and over. Give it a rest.

CBJ was not happy with officiating last night. He called them out on the post game show. He said there were several times bammer broke the huddle with 10 men and ran 1 on and it should have been called a delay of game. I'll have to catch the replay and see.

Yep. That happened several times. I was calling the refs out from the stands. Didn't do me any good either.

I'd like to know who some of you think would do a better job than Butch to this point? Taking into account the lack of depth on both lines and having to face ten top-10 teams in your first 20 games.

Butch vs. top-10 teams: 1-9
Butch vs. non top-10 teams: 8-2

At the end of this season (including a bowl game) Tennessee will be 14-11 in the Butch Jones era. The near and distant future looks bright with the Big Orange light that is shining.

The dooley and kiffin Dark Ages are behind us...The Renaissance is beginning :salute:

It's so funny seeing people on different boards do a 180 on Dobbs. People all year have talked about he was trash and then he comes out and impresses and now we are in good hands for the next 2 years.

People, freshman to sophomore year is a HUUUUGE development period for young QBs. And he wasn't as bad as people acted last year in the first place.

He should have come on in relief of Worley in the FLA game...

In all fairness Kiffin has managed to hold the respect of some his peers on the Vols staff. I did notice an orange clad ball boy seek him out to shake his hand after the game. :)

Especially considering limited weapons once North went down.

As much success as we had once Dobbs came in against Bama compared to A&M, we may look like Oregon against SC. If the D can regain form its gona be a fun night.

Good afternoon guys/gals. I can't remember being this positive after a loss before. Someone talk be down, tell me to slow my roll, pull back the reins, take the orange glasses off etc....

I am positive we just saw a difference maker a qb last night. He is only a sophomore, I can't imagine the type of player he is going to look like after another season of strength training and development along with the talent he is going to have around him. Am I wrong for thinking he could be a Russell Wilson, Cordell Stewart or Donavan McNabb type elite college qb?

He looked the role with the added lbs.

Anyone have any injury news? Got real banged up at DT last night

I know I saw Owen back in...think he banged that hurt thumb against Sims' leg or the ground and stung it. They rebandaged it and he was back. Pretty sure Jordan Williams was back too...that young man is a gamer. Saulsberry is the one that might not be good. Looked to be in a lot of pain. Would guess he's done until at least after the bye week...maybe longer.

@Volquest_Paul: Every time an opponent has made it in the red zone against the Vols they have scored. Opponents are 17-17 for 12 TDs & 5 FGs. That's crazy.

Yeesh that's brutal. Didn't even realize that.

Nice info and amazing stat.

That happened more than once for sure. One time they were lined up and then snuck out a WR on the short side of the field on their sideline 5 seconds before the ball was snapped.
