removed, checked to see if it was full auto, and returned in the space of a minute (give or take). not exactly pissing on the burning Constitution. And in case you missed it the officer was responding to calls from the general public who felt unsafe. In your world the cop doesn't even get out of the car, just runs the man over, pulls out his 9mm shots him a couple times and throws him into jail for resisting arrest, all the while confiscating his legal gun.

how would not talking to the officer improved that situation?

In my world the cop wouldn't have even engaged the guy, much less remove his personal property like it was his. The guy in the video made the mistake of not asking immediately if he was being detained. Instead he went full-on stupid and got chatty with him. The key is to end police contact as quickly as possible. So I'll ask from the get-go "Am I being detained?" If the officer says no, I walk away immediately. If he says I am being detained, then I'll invoke my rights and say absolutely nothing. Don't cooperate and always KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

The cop was responding because there had been a number of calls from other people saying they felt unsafe because there is a guy walking around with a gun on the side of a busy street in the middle of the day. Cop was doing his duty of protecting the public. Turns out there was nothing to protect from this time. and the guy only lost 5 minutes of his time and got a good Youtube video out of it.

Or if you're doing nothing wrong you can simply answer the damn questions and be on your merry way. This approach tends to work better in the end.

In a lot of these people's mind every cop is just waiting to pepper spray, taze, and shoot you for looking at them funny. Then when you're on the
Ground they'll Billy club you all the way to the pokey because you "obstructed justice"

Just because the some of the "feels unsafe" does not mean police should get involved. Now if he was pointing the rifle at people that would be a different story.

I feel unsafe every time I get near someone with an Obama/Biden 2012 sticker, can I call the cops to have them pulled over?

so a gun is nonthreatening while a sticker scares you enough to call the cops. seems reasonable.

If I get pulled over smelling like a brewery, I'll answer "no I haven't been drinking I'm not a suspect"...

Should take care of it.

also if you've been drinking

1) just give the police officer, your, License, registartion, and insurance
2) Don't take the field sobriety test
3) Don't take the breathalyzer

Only comply if your 100% certain you can pass the breathalyzer

The community was afraid he was carrying a fully automatic weapon and the officer simply wanted to make sure. This dumbass kid could have been on his merry way in 2 minutes if he would have just not been a confrontational little brat.

Except, you are waiving your license for a year if you do that. Refuse the breathalyzer that is.

if there is a stranger walking around with a gun/AR in your neighborhood I bet you would feel unsafe having your children outside at the same time. Now assuming you are an able bodied man all you might do is go outside and keep a closer eye on your kids, maybe bring your own gun along, assuming you have one. Now, what if you are a 80 year grandmother without a gun watching your grandkids as your single daughter works a double shift to pay for those kids? I think calling the police is a perfectly reasonable response.

Sounds like uniformed mob mentality to me. He wasn't breaking the law and should have been left alone regardless of what the community thought.

Or if that concerned tell the kids to come inside.

Until the azzholes built that golf course down the road it wasn't unusual to see armed men walking down the road near my house during the fall.

Couldn't be sure he wasn't breaking the law without checking it out at least. There's a lot of things to be outraged about in this thread but checking a firearm to make sure it is semi auto is not one of them.

What if it looked like this?

Think anyone would have called?

the video was shot in an urban setting. not a good place for hunting.

There is common sense and then there's no sense. Some on here display no sense when it comes to common sense. It's people like this that cause people like us to have rights restricted, problem is the people with no common sense don't realize it. Walking around in an urban setting is going to get the police involved, period. Without citizens calling in on suspicious activitty we will lose more battles than we will win. If the police didn't respond and simply told the complainant that the person was well within their rights to walk around the city/school with a gun they may not call the next time there is an incident like in Newtown, CT. If only someone had seen him and called several young lives would be around today.

There is no way you can state this definitively!

No back to the subject at hand, the guy was a dumbazz but again there is no law against that. I really don't have a problem with the cops checking him out, asking what he's doing and even if the gun was automatic. But I do have a problem with them demanding that he hand it over for inspection, he wasn't breaking the law or at least no evidence he was so they had no right to pursue further.
