Drastic action needed on Ebola

So it looks like one of those quarantined kids decided to go to school today anyway. Real nice. Don't they have anyone watching these people?

Don't think they do. One of the news shows reported they were to take their temperature daily and if they started feeling sick go to hospital.

It's almost like they want it to spread. Other countries have already shut down flights from Africa. But not us, it's like it would infringe on their civil liberties to deny possibly infectious people from roaming the country.

Lord what this thread is devolving into. Oh noes, Ebola is here it's going to be just like Africa. The CDC can't handle it. The government is lying to us and are using Ebola to cull the population. Maybe some of you need to develop agoraphobia and never leave your house. That way you don't have to worry about viruses.

I'm pretty numb to the government lying to me, the CDC appears pretty incompetent right now (what agency doesn't), and the intel was that it wasn't likely to spread to the US. I'm not going to freak out but what indications are there that they have control of the situation?

You know what's funny? The parents in Dallas who "panicked" and kept their kids home from school made the right move apparently.

Its not spreading in the US and it will not like it has in Africa. Proof that the CDC is very competent. They are the ones that have formulated the emergency responses and measures that hospitals are implementing. Also there have been many reports featuring the CDC and other physicians telling there is not much to worry about. However there are still those who think the CDC cannot handle things.

How is your prediction of what may or may not happen in the future proof of anything? All we've seen so far from the CDC is one mistake after the next.

I'd rather our agencies develop some common sense

Well well well if it isn't Jonas Salk himself

I don't think there'll be a major outbreak. I'm just pointing stuff out that indicate officials don't have a handle on the situation. Also, what do you expect them to say? Here are some initial reports:

- the guy sought treatment, was given antibiotics, then released.
- EMT personnel that responded were not notified that they had contact with an Ebola patient
- the people that cleaned the vomit up had no protective equipment.
- it appears no one is keeping tabs on the guys family
- a kid that was supposed to be quarantined, went to school!
- flights are still coming in from Liberia and Sierra Leon
- reporters arriving from Liberia sought out screeners at the airport and told them they had been in contact with patients. They were allowed in without any follow-up questions.

If the head of whatever department is in charge was the director of the secret service, they would have been asked to resign by now.

From my knowledge none of the mistakes have come from the CDC proper, instead it has originated from the hospital staff itself.

CDC is competent? You forget about their mishandling of smallpox and a few other diseases?

Good lord. Believe what you want people. Just know that when this Ebola outbreak is finally gotten under control, one of the main reasons will be the CDC.

It is being reported this morning on the Today Show that they are sending people in today to clean and sanitize the appartment in Dallas.

This has been a disaster by the CDC. Why did it take several days to think it might be a good idea to sanitize that appartment?

Reports are that people were scared to go clean that up. We have hazmat teams that can go into a potential anthrax scene but are scared to go into an apartment with Ebola that is supposedly hard to contract? Does something not seem to be a little off here?
