Drastic action needed on Ebola

Nah it's all a big conspiracy theory. The government is secretly shopping Ebola into the US to start an epidemic to thin the herd.

Please continue to freak out over nothing though.

Since you’re so intent on implying that I’m a conspiracy theorist, I will entertain you with some free thinking. As I see it, there are at least three primary possibilities as it relates to this ebola outbreak. First, and most obviously, it could be just a naturally-occurring event. Clearly, this is very possible and perhaps even probable. Another possibility is that the outbreak is simply being overhyped by the media, for any number of potential reasons, e.g., simply to spread fear, to garner ratings, or even to promote some vaccine on the way (we all know big pharma = big money). We know the media loves to put a big scare into the general populace and this could be just another example. There’s also at least one “conspiracy theory” that might apply as well. It could be that the outbreak, and potentially the disease itself, are man-made by “the powers that be” as a means of population control. Is it any wonder that someone might consider such a theory in light of:

- A prominent University professor openly espousing the use of ebola to intentionally wipe out 90% of the world’s population (Eric Pianka - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) (“ . . . Pianka said the Earth would not survive unless its population was reduced by 90% suggesting that the planet would be "better off" if the human population were reduced and that a mutant strain of Ebola (which has up to a 90% mortality rate) would be the most efficient means. . . . .”)
- A Nobel Prize-Winning microbiologist promoting the use of biological weapons to depopulate overpopulated countries (theage.com.au - The Age -)
- Henry Kissinger, as part of the National Security Council, promoting population control/reduction (http://pdf.usaid.gov/pdf_docs/PCAAB500.pdf) (“Action to Create Conditions for Fertility Decline . . . .”)
- Presidential science advisor advocating population reduction (Can a collapse of global civilization be avoided?) (“To our minds, the fundamental cure, reducing the scale of the human enterprise (including the size of the population) to keep its aggregate consumption within the carrying capacity of Earth, is obvious but too much neglected or denied.”)
- Ted Turner openly espousing a 90% reduction in the world’s population (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMgamzziQMM)
- Bill Gates openly espousing population control /reduction (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUJMR3BUm2s)
- The mysterious Georgia Guidestones openly espousing a 90% reduction in the world’s population (Georgia Guidestones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) (“1.Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.”)
- Mysterious brand new empty ghost cities in the middle of nowhere, the purpose of which is undisclosed and unknown (China's Ghost Cities... Are Multiplying | Zero Hedge)
- Agenda 21 openly espousing control and/or reductions in world population (http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/content/documents/Agenda21.pdf) (“The growth of world population and production combined with unsustainable consumption patterns places increasingly severe stress on the life-supporting capacities of our planet. . . . Population policy should also recognize the role played by human beings in environmental and development concerns. . . . Policies should be designed to address the consequences of population growth built into population momentum . . . . Full integration of population concerns into national planning, policy and decision-making processes should continue . . . . Population policies and programmes should be considered . . . . Population programmes should be implemented along with natural resource management . . . .”)

That’s a pretty short list, and it could be much longer. Honestly, I don’t know which it is (natural outbreak; media frenzy; conspiracy), but how could one not wonder about the possibilities?

Purpose: To give information to airlines on stopping ill travelers from boarding, managing and reporting onboard sick travelers, protecting crew and passengers from infection, and cleaning the plane and disinfecting contaminated areas.

Key Points
•A U.S. Department of Transportation rule permits airlines to deny boarding to air travelers with serious contagious diseases that could spread during flight, including travelers with possible Ebola symptoms. This rule applies to all flights of U.S. airlines, and to direct flights (no change of planes) to or from the United States by foreign airlines.
•Cabin crew should follow routine infection control precautions for onboard sick travelers. If in-flight cleaning is needed, cabin crew should follow routine airline procedures using personal protective equipment available in the Universal Precautions Kit. If a traveler is confirmed to have had infectious Ebola on a flight, CDC will conduct an investigation to assess risk and inform passengers and crew of possible exposure.
•Hand hygiene and other routine infection control measures should be followed.
•Treat all body fluids as though they are infectious.

Ebola Guidance for Airlines | Quarantine | CDC

Why are we expecting the airlines to be responsible for preventing outbreaks? Why don't we just block travel from the epidemic countries for a month or two? Let the disease burn itself out.

Something just isn't right, you can STILL board a plane in Lagos, Nigeria and land 13 hrs. later in ATL.... Madness!!!

Wow. There is really nothing to say. You're really thinking outside the box.

In the modern age I don't think a country can seal it's borders any more unless you plan to shoot down civilian airliners, set up an naval blockades, and deploy thousands of soldiers on both borders with shoot to kill orders. You do all that though and your economy is pretty much over.

Totally sealing the borders would be very difficult, no doubt, but limiting open, direct commercial flights from certain places seems like a no-brainer. If the numbers keep climbing, they will have no choice at some point.

And now they are projecting up to 1.4 million cases by the end of January:

WHO: 21,000 Ebola cases by November if no changes

"CDC scientists conclude there may be as many as 21,000 reported and unreported cases in just those two countries as soon as the end of this month, according to a draft version of the report obtained by The Associated Press. They also predict that the two countries could have a staggering 550,000 to 1.4 million cases by late January."

Of course, that's the CDC and their track record isn't great.

I am compelled to agree. My guess is that the only reason the US and others have not suspended ingress of persons from these countries is concern that, if it did so, it would cause a panic.

I imagine that is going to change if we start to see spontaneous cases here, or, more likely first, in Europe.

I would suspect around this time next year the outbreak will be under control. Also as I have said, it's going to get much worse before it gets better. When the African people begin to realize how bad it actually is, hopefully they will start to act rationally and follow protocols laid out by healthcare workers.

So expect things to get much worse. Especially until a vaccine is fully tested and mass produced.

That noise you hear is the sound of millions of uninformed Americans freaking the frick out right now.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday confirmed the first case of Ebola has been diagnosed in the United States.

The CDC will host a press conference at its Atlanta headquarters at 5:30 p.m., ET.

A direct result of not banning outgoing and incoming flights from these heavily infected areas.

Three easy ways to make sure you don't get sick;

1. Don't come into contact of bodily fluids of the infected.
2. Don't eat bush meat.
3. Don't go to impact zones

See it's that easy.

How is one supposed to know where these are? Until today I didn't know Texas was an "impact zone".

One case does not an impact zone make. :hi:

It's like cockroaches, you never see them all until it's too late.

What's wrong with requiring a quarantine period for all travelers originating from impact zones? Why risk an outbreak here? You do realize what this will do to the airline industry don't you?

I was never against travel bans, I just realize even if we put them into place it wouldn't stop it from spreading here. Quite honestly I'm surprised it hadn't jumped here earlier. The fact is ebola is easily preventable if one follows basic hygiene protocols. You won't see it spread in modern Western countries like it has in West Africa, our doctors, hospitals, and medical technology are so vastly superior it's not funny.

It's not the actual spread of the disease it's the fear the disease will cause leading to people not spending money. Particularly at the start of the holiday shopping season.
