There are 6,000 things on a 5 year old's mind. I'd be proud he wants to go, but I wouldn't take my 10 year old to the SECCG.
Not only is downtown Atlanta dangerous after dark, LSU fans are notorious for throwing beer and other objects when they score. Personally, I think my son will be ready for a non-home game at about 14, at the earliest.
I don't know about the danger. My dad took me to Braves games at Fulton County Stadium and that was thirty years ago when the neighborhood was a lot sketchier than it is now. I think you'll be fine.
LSU fans, however, are not always on their best behavior, and many are very poor sports. You should be okay at a neutral site, but I went to one football game in Tiger Stadium to see the Vols play, and I will never go back. Personally, I'd take my own child to an SEC CG.
