Enough with the excuses!

Yeah since Having a new coach every 2.5 years since 2008 has been so beneficial program, why not just repeat the process, right?

Look around at the successful programs then look at their HC history. Most go through a period of coaches who stay 2-4 years. Most of them are fired after 3 years.

How many programs in the last 20 years have had coaches come in, lose for 2-4 years, then rise to compete for championships? Hint: They are VERY rare.

Please look at post #30 in this thread. Nevermind, here's what Countvolcula said: Reality will soon set in as soon as we go to Norman

It will be close for awhile, then depth and youth will haunt us in the 2nd half

As the season goes on, it will get worse

As the season goes on, it will get worse. You see that, right? Worse than what? In context the only answer is the "reality" that will set in when UT plays OU.

I think that's pretty much "downhill".

EVERY team has injuries and EVERY team replaces players. ALL OF THEM. Mizzou replaces 14 starters and only returns 39 lettermen this fall. Their talent pool for replacing those players isn't nearly as rich as UT's. But you seem to be suggesting it would not be a statement about coaching ability if UT loses that game. Right?

So, when our players get hurt and there is no one to fill in that's not Butches fault?

Next yr ppl will say you can only expect 5 wins because we lose Worley and AJ....it's a never ending thing

Guess what.....The other teams have voids every yr too. That's how college football works.

That's why ur coach gets paid to make them less exploited.

A few have ended up winning the SECC after a losing season year one.

Don't know of any who have started with back to back losing seasons and then gone on to win the SECC.

Dude you gotta stop with your shenanigans. If we don't make a bowl this year and don't improve, then I'll be worried. We're all tired of losing, I hate it as much as you do, but let's see what CBJ and staff do this season before we pass judgement.

I actually don't expect it to. The guy I originally responded to said that reality would set in at OU and then things would go downhill afterwards. I expect OU to be a tough game but for Jones to continue to coach his team up and get a good win plus the ones he should get... putting UT at 6-8 wins.

The most difficult thing to do is turn around a cultural attitude of loseing is ok. CLK kinda did it when he was here that one year but CDD was not able to. Look at all those games we were in till halftime that the team laid down in tye second half!

Want to know how messed up your thinking is? A gator fan got 56 likes for disagreeing with you on the first page of this thread.

I went to the utsports website and counted 55 freshman, redshirt freshman and sophomores on the roster.

I don't know how many are walkons of those 55, but that's a lot.

Say what you want, but this season "youth" is a legitimate cause for concern.

No it's not a concern, not in this day and age. Tennessee is going to beat Florida's ass this year and take a hold of the series for the next couple of decades.

That's the thing. It really isn't that hard to turn around a culture of losing. If you want to buy that for last year then I won't argue with you. But General Grant turned around a losing attitude in the whole Union Army in a matter of 6 months. People WANT to believe they can win in every walk of life. One of the things they'll follow most willingly is someone who tells them with conviction that they CAN win.

I have come to a somewhat firm belief that Jones' plan did not really include last year's Srs. He rode out year one with them but his focus was on this year and beyond. Another reason I believe that is that he didn't set a very high bar last fall. He set the mark at 6 wins.... just get to a bowl. That's not really a message to those guys that they're great and should win a bunch of games. Not saying he short changed them necessarily... just that he sees the program as bigger than that Sr class. If I'm right then I like that his loyalties are in order.

Beyond that, since the end of last season he's done the things I would hope to see a HC do. All that's left is proving he can get it done on gameday. Like the recruiting... but LOVE the development. Like the media control and relations with fans and alumni. I LOVE the inspiration and dedication the players are showing... that doesn't happen in a vacuum. It is a response to good leadership.

A little piece of me died inside when I liked a gator post, but this deserved it.

Well, if CBJ doesn't have a decent year he'll probably do like everyone else and try to load up on JUCO's. Then what will the excuse be? I remember Fulmer stating over and over and over how many players missed how many quarters. I got tired of hearing that each and every week!
