Don't understand this one at all. First, he may not be cleared by the SEC. 2nd, he may not be given a waiver by the NCAA. 3rd, he doesn't fit Tyndall's style. Word is that he is over weight. If you can't get a player who can contribute immediately then UT is better off to recruit someone without transfer baggage. 4th, he's got some past issues. I don't know any details, but something was going on.

I think you're off on 1, 2 and 3. 4 is accurate though. But like you said, you don't know any details.

They think he is going to be cleared from everything I have heard. He does have trouble with weight and anger management issues. If CDT can get those two issues under control then we found a heck of a skilled big that can turn a mediocre to poor season into a really good one.

Pastner has stated that DW has worked hard recently and is in the best shape since he came to UM. This is all about attitude. Pastner does not allow cursing from his players and DW would not and could not keep his mouth shut. I know there were other issues, but he is a talented big man. IMO, he is worth the risk. I am just glad we have a coach who seems willing to roll the dice and be aggressive in recruiting. Hopefully this translates to an aggressive, passionate team on the court.

Gotta hope Woodson can keep his nose clean, hasn't shown the ability to stay in one place for more than a year very often.
Woodson doesn't lack in attitude and aggression.
If Donnie's TOUGH style meshes with Dom's need to vent, Woodson has the potential to be a game changer on the defensive end.
This will be interesting.
Like to see Donnie change him into a Pro prospect by SR season.

Yeah usually those types are your best players if you can focus it on the court.

Do you know he'll be cleared by the SEC and the NCAA?
Then you know no more than anyone else. Obviously the alternative is that he many be cleared. The fact is those two things HAVE to happen for him to contribute this year. If he can't contribute this year then is this gamble better than recruiting a HS player? I say no.

And regarding #3. We've heard over and over how CDT likes long and lean post players who can run the floor and full court press. So how does a 300 pounder fit that in your mind?
I've since googled some articles and it's clear this kid has major attitude issues.

Oh, and no one mentioned that his stat line was absolute crap.

Ideally, that is the kind of player he wants but u don't pass on guys as talented as Dom...if he doesn't work out then he will be off the team. Yeah he had a poor stat line but so did J McRae early in his career. Everyone that has reported on it thinks he will be cleared to play.

If he doesn't work out, he will be gone. What's the big deal. We have had quite a few players not work out over the last few years. Many teams do. Could be the Memphis funk that got him. The whole city often has an attitude or is stuck in a rut. Could be anything.
Nobody knows him. He will either make it and help or he will leave. No reason for emotion on the subject.

If he isn't cleared by the SEC or NCAA, then we risked nothing by taking him. As for his fit on the team, it's really about a lack of options at this point. CDT isn't in a position to be picky (not that landing a former top-75 player is being picky). Is he Tyndall's ideal post player? Maybe not, but he brings a skill level and reputation that exceeds anything else we currently have in the post. The staff did their homework here, I can assure you. Scholarships are precious in basketball, and Tyndall already stated he wouldn't give them out to simply fill out a roster. He obviously thinks Dom can play, and play well. I have seen him play in person, and he can rebound and defend very well in the post.

Then broadcast it. The "I know more than y'all know" routine is stale. If you know something, then spill it. Otherwise, leave everyone else to their own assumptions, and don't criticize them for it if you plan to simply sit on your info.

I can do with my info as I please, no need to broadcast something, like I said just use common sense. There's a reason he was kicked out of FGCU, wasn't allowed into the SEC, and the best place he could find was LBSU. I'm not saying he killed someone, but there was more to it than just smoking pot, and as I said to VB33 you won't find anything that says he was smoking pot, that's an assumption on people's parts.

Yeah and he should have been....if he is not then we are back where we started....no harm, no foul.

I've got no issue with taking him, and have said as much, just saying it's no guarantee. And not sure what you mean, if Dom isn't cleared I'm guessing he stays at Tennessee and redshirts this season, ready to play next season, no?

@GaryParrishCBS: "To clear up some things on Dominic Woodson: I’m told the Memphis staff will tell the NCAA that Woodson’s scholarship was not renewed. …Consequently, it’s reasonable to believe the NCAA will make Woodson eligible at Tennessee this season courtesy of a run-off waiver.”

This. If he doesn't work out just kick him off the team and we're back where we started. If he does work out you gained a talented post player with tons of potential.

So if you cut a player and give their scholarship to someone else, you can be eligible immediately at another school of your choice? Is that how it works?

1 and 2 has been answered by dortch, Volquest and now Parrish. Still gotta wait and get final word but it is heading that way obviously.

3. The style thing is blown way out of proportion by this fanbase. We aren't Loyola Maramount. Some have even argued that his pace is slower than Martin's.

4. He got into a fight with a football player and he's been suspended by Pastner for cussing.

As far as his stat line goes, I'd say do some research as to why it looks the way it does.

This kid is a talent. Obvious to everyone that he needs to get his stuff together. I'm guessing tyndalls demeanor will work better for this kid than Pastner's. Kids like Woodson with a bit of an attitude walk all over a coach like Joshy. Gotta hope he gets it together here.

Read Dortch's article from yesterday. Good insight on this signee.

So, pretty much, you'll take your ball and go home. At the same time, you'll criticize anyone that has a theory that doesn't match your top secret, Q-clearance intel.

Makes sense.

Classic BTO hyperbole. The one who allowed for no questioning of Cuonzo in three years is badgering those who are willing to give Tyndall the benefit of doubt before he coaches his first game.
