'15 NC DT Shy Tuttle (UT commit 9/26/14)

Stars definitely matter. I cant believe people are even arguing that point when you see who have won the previous national championships and then look at how they've recruited.

Everyone has a lot of "busts" it's just magnified at a school like TN when they don't land enough top end talent. In the 90's TN had a lot of busts, but they recruited so well consistently that the 10-20 guys who were highly rated who didn't work out didn't make much of a difference.
Those lists of TN "busts" don't mean anything as far as the recruiting rankings argument goes. If they were pulling Top 5-10 classes every year like they used to, those guys not working out wouldn't even be remembered by anyone. Problem is the other option lately has been a bunch of middle of the road "diamond in the rough" types to fill the void thus all the losing season. I could name just as many 4 and 5-star busts from 1994-1999 as this list. Difference is back then for every Brian Darden you had a Jamal Lewis or Travis Henry to step in for him.

+1...busts don't hurt near as much when the rest of your class is filled with top talent. Every class, every year experiences busts or guys not working out for whatever reason. It's the talent left in those classes after those guys are gone that matters.

That why these camps have become so popular as they allow the best of the best go against each other and then there is a re-ranking.. You hear about kids blowing up or suddenly they go from some interest by a few small schools then to a swarm of big school after them.. This has changed a lot in the past 10-15 years.

Excellent point. It makes sense that there would be fewer busts across the board now in college football as opposed to the 90's...Of course, there will still be a steady flow of academic casualties and disciplinary cases.

A player may want to be a 5* but if you think that can be used as a measuring stick for success then you're sadly mistaken.

Nationdom is almost always wrong, but he's actually not mistaken here.

The Star system has been shown over time to be a tremendous predictor of probability of success.

Doesn't mean 5 stars can't bust, doesn't mean 2 stars can't be great.

Just means that 5 stars are statistically much more likely to achieve success than a 2 or 3 star.

Stars definitely matter.

Pretty basic interview. Doesn't go into much detail about anyone. The only visit he has set up to watch a game is UT vs Utah St.

Only makes sense that he wants to see the team, who he will play with for the next 4 years, play their first game of the season. I believe he's announcing 5 days before that game.

I believe we will have a ton of visitors for our opener, because of when it is being played, and the fact it is on Labor Day weekend.

It's probably the only game he could make before his announcement. The following week is a noon kickoff and then we don't come back for a month.

Agree. Should be judged based on averages. Give me 15 4 and 5 stars with 10 3 stars over the opposite. About a third of your roster will be upgraded over a full recruiting cycle which improves depth, special teams, and competition in practice.

Note: assuming some natural attrition, players leaving early, etc.

My 2-year old loves Star from the goodnight show on Sprout...

No. I know Drew's date. I thought someone was announcing at the end of August.

Originally, Shy was going to announce August 25th or 26th... Can't remember which one. And then, about a week or so ago, he pushed his date back.

Looks like we could have 3 big commits in September with Van, Shy, and Drew.

I remember now, because I remember saying that he will commit the day before we go to Georgia and beat the puppies.

Sprout...dang I hated the wiggles. Now it's power rangers (UGH!)

I'm starting to miss them dancing star treky dudes.

Wiggles are weird. They individually look like business executives but sing and dance. I can't get past it. They look like somebody's manager. Stinking fruit salad song! Lol.
