That's ****ed up, especially when Zimmerman was acquitted ...
Acquittal means the State did not prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt. The standard in a civil case is much less -- simply more likely than not.
It is not uncommon after a criminal trial and acquittal for jurors to say they think he did it. But feel compelled to acquit because they could not be sure.

You're being tried for the same crime twice, I believe that violates your constitutional rights. If not guilty of one then the other should be moot.

They let him patrol the property with a gun, as their agent. Volunteer or paid has nothing to do with it. They could be sued vicariously, for his actions. And they could be sued for their own direct negligence in accepting his services.
