Gun control debate (merged)

Update on the Philly lady that got caught in NJ:

Judge denies motion to dismiss case against Philly mom arrested for legal gun in NJ | Fox News

A New Jersey judge denied a motion to dismiss charges Tuesday against a Philadelphia mother who mistakenly entered New Jersey, where she was stopped for a traffic violation and found in possession of a handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets.

Allen rejected a prosecutor's offer to serve 3 1/2 years in prison, her attorney, Evan Nappen, told FoxNews.com.

3.5 years for hollowpoints?

W...T...F...

And the liberal left wonders why gun owners get outraged. And I'll say it again, if Chris Christie doesn't do something about the moronic gun laws in NJ, he can kiss any support from the NRA, GOA or any pro-gun American goodbye.

Last time I checked the laws were made by the house and senate with the governor signing bills into laws.

He can start with a pardon.

It just blows my mind about how stupid people that come up with gun control laws really are. No hollowpoints? Really? So you take away a highly effective round that also limits over penetration and force your population to use FMJ bullets which WILL overpenetrate thus risking innocent bystanders? And furthermore, 3.5 years for carrying said hollowpoints even if it was a wrong turn?

This should never have seen the light of day in a courtroom. And furthermore, that judge should have dismissed it out of hand when the prosecution offered "only" three and a half years prison time. Horse**** is what it is.

And the Governor also has the ability to request the laws be changed in said Legislature. And do it publicly so it brings the issues to light and the people can see he is doing something about it.

Don't defend your boy here Gramps, you know he's wrong for not doing anything and attempting to let sleeping dogs lie.

I don't nor you don't see the democrats that control the house and senate in NJ passing any legislation that weakens the gun laws on the books. Christie can veto any new laws sent to him, he can't change the laws on the books.

Christie has zero chance of getting the gun laws weakened in NJ. One has to choose their fights, that is one fight he could not win.

Some fights are worth fighting. He's an incumbent Governor that probably has aspirations for higher office and not objecting to his Legislature continuing their draconian measures does nothing to help his cause. And I can flat guarantee you he will not get an endorsement from any gun group out there as long as he continues his silence and continues to let the Legislature deny the basic rights of their constituents.

He very well could call for change. Put his views on record and let the Legislature deny it so it's on them. But he sits there silently and continues to allow things like this to go on.

He could refuse to enforce them, precedent has been set.

Because he is a liberal, Gramps knows this. That's why the 'ol boy supports him.

Most Governors have full pardon authority.

Unfortunately, that means this woman will have to go through the trial.

Which is horse**** as I mentioned before.

Christie could use this as his example of relaxing the laws. "Look how stupid we are at this point by charging a person from another State with having an item that is entirely LEGAL in that State, but not ours. How dumb are we?"

NJ is the only State in the Union with such idiotic laws concerning ammunition. And one city, San Francisco. Most of us call that a "hint" that your laws look retarded. And if NJ wants to be lumped in with that group of ****ing Martians out in Cali, so be it.

Not a NJ law expert, probably know more about NJ law than LG and FL law, but.....

CC might not be able to pardon her prior to trial, however he could come out publicly and say if convicted he will pardon immediately. Make it clear a trial is a waste of time.

A Virginia medical examiner has ruled the death of James Brady, the former press secretary critically wounded in the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan a homicide, according to a police spokesperson.

Brady was shot in the head by John Hinckley during the assassination attempt in 1981.

I'm not sure exactly how they can rule this a homicide from the injury sustained 33 years earlier. And I'm not sure how police can "investigate" this since Hinkley already was found not guilty by reasons of insanity in the Reagan assassination attempt. Wouldn't double jeopardy come into play here?

Just be glad they're not trying to pin it on Sam Colt.

If I were looking for a gun for home defense, what would be y'all's opinions on the best?

I'm thinking about a .22 just due to the fact that I don't see myself needing much more than that and the ammo is still pretty damn cheap

Not in any particular order:

Glock 19
Sig P229
H&K VP9
S&W M&P
Beretta PX4
CZ P07
FN FNS

In 9mm using Federal HST 124 grain bonded HP

ETA: This is a standard list I give most anyone who asks. Try each to find which fits your hand better and try it out before buying if possible.

Thanks...I'll do some research on them

Too bulky...harder to keep handy if I am in bed and someone breaks in. IMO

Definitely look at handguns and purchase hollow point ammo so if you ever have to use it you will be less likely to have your bullets go through the walls and kill your neighbors.

A .22 for protection? You might as well get a sling shot. All you will do is piss off some tweaked out nut.

Shotgun is the best option.
