Enough with the excuses!

Going back to Fulmer "we're a young team" and his banter with "the next recruiting class" to Dooleys "we're young bla bla bla" Now, we have Butch following the same pattern! Well, those players should be parents of Jr. High kids by now and all these great recruits should be winning us NCs! No more year zero and other slogans because as of last year Butch and the team got rung all season long beginning with Oregan and let GA off the hook and that's not counting the loss against Fla. I say no more excuses and no more pumping sunshine!

But friend it sounds as if you could really use some sunshine pumping..

Yeah. Oddly enough, Penn State doesn't really seem to be struggling with coaching turnover, even with all their sanctions and lost players. Auburn seems to do alright firing their coach as soon as he has a losing season. Goes to show you what can happen when you actually try to hire the best guy for the job.

also true

I fail to see where Butch stating facts is Sunshine pumping. I don't recall him making many excuses either. He did say more than once that losing was unacceptable. I saw an improvement from the beginning of last year till the spring of this in the attitude and sense of urgency in the players. Yes we let Georgia off the hook but instead of have a pity party about it they went out and Beat USCjr the next week. Progress can be measured by more than wins and losses.

Actually, no. At some point in time, whatever the coaches do in recruiting, in building morale, & in game planning must translate into wins. Wins and wins alone are the ultimate gauge of progress.

Bandwagon fans need to keep their bags packed... they will have the opportunity to get off early on this year.

Youth is served this year... more so than ever. I would be tickled to see a 6-6 season with a bowl game. That would be some high level coaching for this year.

Haha, it's so funny to pretend that a program coming off 4 straight losing seasons would have any "bandwagon fans" left.

Its funny how people start threads like this then don't post in them after that.

Captain Obvious Thread! We are young! how many players went through their first spring practice? 40 or 50? That is a young team!

Now you add season going downhill and nobody said that. Maybe you should focus on what others and you post.
Here's the exact quote. Do you think I misinterpreted the meaning?

Reality will soon set in as soon as we go to Norman

It will be close for awhile, then depth and youth will haunt us in the 2nd half

As the season goes on, it will get worse

If Butch is forced to play even more young players that should be redshirting due to depth issues as we go into another brutal schedule means nothing in regards to Butchs or any coaches ability to win in the long run, especially in yr 2 with half the underclassmen as under. Zero. You said it "will point strongly" to failure.
If UT suffers extraordinary injuries then that could be a mitigating factor. Injuries to key players on the order that UGA saw last fall.

And AGAIN... we aren't talking about winning the SEC or East or even a game against one of the conference elites. We're talking about beating teams that start the season with LESS talent than UT has. EVERYONE suffers injuries. UT probably will... as will all of those teams they can realistically beat to make a bowl game: Mizzou, Vandy, UK, Chatt, ASU, and USU and possibly UF, USCe, or UGA.

And if it doesn't go downhill from there.........

You'd have to read the context posts. One poster predicted that UT would look good vs OU for awhile before fading in the second half and that things would get worse as the season goes along.

That's not what I expect at all. I have a little gnawing doubt in the back of my mind concerning Jones but still believe he's a better coach than that. If anything (barring extraordinary injuries) I believe the team will show some fight but ultimately not have the guns to stay with OU... but IMPROVE after learning alot about themselves in that game.

I DO NOT expect Jones to be a bad coach. Much of the talk going on now will be moot by the end of the season IMO. I believe he will get 6-8 wins and validate himself as an SEC quality HC.

The gnawing doubts are these. One, iirc he was 6-13 vs teams that finished with a winning record while at Cincy. His regular season schedule avg'd about half and half between teams with a winning record and teams with a losing record. UT played 8 teams with a winning record last year including several ranked teams. (None of this includes FCS schools) He was 2-6 against teams that finished with a winning record (USCe, WKU). Two, the coaching looked poor at times last fall with progressive, permanent improvements difficult to spot.

IOW's, his success was elsewhere against weaker schedules than UT will EVER face. For that reason, I can't justify having "faith" in him until he actually proves he can coach at this level and win games against top shelf coaches and programs.

More then half of those freshman are more talented then anyone we have had for the last 5 years. They will perform at a high level. They're young, they're fast, they're determined. A select few were raised from birth to don the orange and white, to defend the state and city

What, no cops or National Guard? :eek:hmy:

Dude...your just wrong...you've been here a while and have a bunch of posts...but your just wrong. just another delusional fan who expects turnarounds to happen overnight.

Please explain what you think I am wrong about? What do you consider a "turnaround"?

I frankly don't consider beating the teams on your schedule with less talent a "turnaround". Even if you wanted to ignorantly argue that Mizzou has more talent this year then I still wouldn't say beating 5 teams with less talent and one with slightly more would constitute a turnaround.

A turnaround will be evidenced when UT is competing with the top teams in the SEC and is a factor in the East.

FWIW, winning 5 again or worse will be an indication that a "turnaround" is NOT occurring.

Step away from the keyboard........and no one will get hurt. What do you expect him to say......"Our freshman class is going whup their a$$!" let CBJ coach and we'll let you be a fan.

Unlike many, I don't really care what he says or how he says it. It is interesting but coaches tend to say lots of stuff... much of which turns out to be untrue. I don't think my "feelings" about Jones will make one iota of difference when he matches wits with the best coaches in college football. Only his skill as a coach and developer of talent will matter. Those are the things I want to see...

Brother, trying to quit sniffing glue the very same day you get out of jail and then posting on VN is not a good idea. We love you and are glad you are finally out ... but just listen to your doctor. Just do what he says. It'll all work out....

Here's an excuse. Our program became a dumpster fire under Kiffin and Dooley. Thankfully the piece of shat that took us there has been fired. We now have to wait for a good man to unf**k what those two idiots did.

Fulmer got lazy and let the roster decline. He got fired and the two that came after him left us with zilch. Grin and bear it, the future is promising, but we didn't get here overnight and we won't get out of it overnight.

what i really love is when some OP shows disgust, rants and raves, knowing that he/she cannot do a freaking thing about it,,,,,and it all just turns into vegg noise at that point
