Parrish article on Martin's exit

He definitely had support, funny as you talk about me putting words in people's mouth, I never said he didn't have any support after year 1.

You're a trip dude.

Here you are just a short while ago.....

1. Do you not recall the "goodbye Cuonzo" thread ~10 games into Year 1?

2. Fans packed TBA for NIT game vs. MTSU? It was maybe half full, lol.

which was in response to this post by me....

Nothing wrong with Martin's first year. That's the point you're missing. Fans were still behind CCM at that point. Heck, fans packed TBA for a NIT game vs MTSU.

And if CDT wins 16-19 games, I think most fans will be on board.

So now, to recap....

We are in agreement, Cuonzo still had good fan support even after his first season. Even though you are clearly arguing with me in the above exchange about fan support for him? Then turn around an hour later and accuse me of putting words in your mouth.

And please, stop with the "well, if you're too emotional blah blah blah" line that you've adopted from Sparty. It sucks and it's never valid when you use it.

I moved on the day he left...it's the off season with nothing to talk about....I'm just happy we have something to talk about in the basketball forum....funny u didn't mention moving on when u claimed they were four stars....they had already dropped into the thirties on espn before they split up.

Funny how that works.

Of course this "journalist" thinks it was racism. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a story, right? It's sensationalistic garbage until someone produces some evidence.

Sometimes I wonder if those that so readily level these accusations understand the damage that is done by just implying that something like this occurred. Descrimination is a serious offense that must be dealt with swiftly and appropriately. However, each time there is something like this (an accusation with no evidence other than someone's opinion -- one that there will never be any follow up to determine its validity), it cheapens and marginalizes the cases where there is true racial discrimination.

If there was some sort of prejudice at work here, I would hope that people would step foward and testify as to what they saw or heard. REAL testimony. REAL evidence. Not just a "gut feeling" from some half-a$$ reporter who thinks it's ok to spread accusations with nothing to back it up.

Tennessee doesn't seem to have an issue with hiring minorities within the athletic department -- numerous assistants and other officials. And, as I recall, we went after Charlie Strong pretty hard after we finally dismissed Coach Dufus. I also remember Coach Wade Houston many years ago.

Bottom line: Parrish needs to shut the hell up unless he has some real evidence. This kind of crap has to stop.

- Martin knew just a few months into the job that it wasn't the right place for him

And so did 90% of Vol fans.

-basketball was ugly for 80% of the games for 2.5 years until the run when he stopped coaching and let them play (which he later admitted to having the reigns too much). People want to win and be entertained. We were neither. Hard to watch. Dreaded watching. Regretted watching. Period.
-The players rallied around each other and the coach after the petition. Period. Not even debatable. If that never happens, Martin misses the tourney again. That's just my opinion, but I consider it a decent one. They had to have something to bring them together. Martin couldn't do it. Pg couldn't do it. The petition did it. And the run was fun to watch. Too bad it took dire circumstances and drastic measures to pull out what a coaching staff should've been doing the previous 2 years.

And if there is racism involved, Jerry Green and Oneill say eff off.

Let's see, he knew he it wasn't the right place, yet gets offended by the contract offer. If Martin KNEW he wasn't supposed to be here within months, then how could that not affect his attitude?

Ridiculous.

BTW, UT offered Strong. UT also hired the first black B-ball coach in league history. UT also had the first black quarterback to start in the SEC. It's simply ridiculous. Martin is just wired differently and would have had similar experiences at schools where winning is expected. His recruiting last year was evidence that he didn't want to be here long term, and I'd say Hart and crew had pretty solid indications that Martin was dissatisfied.
Good riddance.

What would you like me to answer, I'm sure I already have, but maybe if I answer it again it'll sink in?

Why don't you address the fact that you implied Martin didn't have fan support because some numbskull wanted to fire him after 10 games? Or that you claimed you never said anything about fan support yet you disagreed with me when I said he had it?

Why don't you address the fact that you keep saying "move on" yet you're at the center of every argument involving Cuonzo?

Why do you keep calling people emotional when clearly there's no one as emotional as you when it comes to a certain topic?

go back to the Martin is hired threads. I, as well as many others, were ready to give him plenty of support and did. Until we watched them lollygag thru too many games too often.

Riddle me this martin said the players told him it was time for him to leave. How come the team was surprised as most when he left along with the commits well other than stokes and mcrae.

Who on the team was surprised he left?

Enough cluttering, moving along...

His biggest weakness IMO was recruiting,

just a step behind man. Slow in recruiting. Slow to adjust during the season. Slow to adjust during games. Slow to anticipate opponents moves. Not enough film work on the opponent with plans to counter.

Seems like a solid man that has been thru the ringer medically, and mentally, but it was if he was watching the game as a fan and reacting, rather than seeing more and anticipating.
Prime example is Stokes not facing up until late last year, when the kid had shown good hands and dribbling ability as well as a midrange shot in his first college game at UK. Then we saw him with his back to the basket on the low block for 2 years and many winnable games lost. Stokes is even able to separate and loves Martin as a man but knows and has said he wasn't able to show his skill set.
It was obvious that Stokes wanted to get out and run the court and wanted to face up. When Martin finally did it, we won 8-9 in a row. Stokes wasn't stuck on the low block down the stretch. Again, 2 years too late.

They aren't highly rated on 247, such a shame, another who can't move on SMH

BTO you bring good info to the board and I appreciate you keeping us up to date on recruiting and prospects, but you literally must be the only one on the board who doesn't see the irony of you telling someone they can't move on. Seriously.

Cuonzo didn't want to be here, his former players thought he should move on, most of the fan base wanted him gone, sounds like a win, win, win.

Sounds about right.

This. Martin accepted the pay raise by agreeing to coach at Tennessee four years ago, realized it wasn't the right fit for him for various reasons, and used the job as a launching pad to coach at a job that is probably a better fit. Moving along...

If its true players thought he should move on gotta wonder if the players thought it would be better for him or better for Tennessee, this may had done been said if so I apologize

Another post of yours I shall save Actually better yet, please list the 18 they "should" win, this should be interesting...
Actually I hope you enjoy watching Tennessee run the zone defense that Martin refused to use to win games. We'll pull the fact out that we ran zone all year with a few man-to-man principles to accumulate the 18 wins. Oh, yeah, Martin didn't know how to press either! Almost forgot, 18 wins with Brandon on the point running that offense with his 3.6 GPA!

Is this some kind of message-board posting robot that is still in the development phase?
