Parrish article on Martin's exit

As he said, Tennessee ideally needs a salesman, and that was never going to be Martin. He didn't like getting out in the community, he wasn't big on social media, and he wasn't gonna go standing on tables in the cafeteria to get students to attended games.

I disagree.....I don't care how boring the coach is if he is bringing in the talent. CDT can sale all he wants and if he is loading our team with projects then I will want him gone. I liked Bruce bc he won, not bc of the antics. I enjoyed him firing everyone up and getting on the nerves of other coaches though.

But to plaster the WHOLE fanbase because some racist idiots went too far?...you live in the same world we do right? There's racism everywhere but the powers that be in Knoxville HIRED Cuonzo! And they didn't fire him...he left! If he had returned he would have had a lot of license to rebuild his way...Hart doesn't fire people who are competent...it took an act of Congress to expunge Dooley for crying out loud...victimmongers screaming how unfairly Zo was treated are a tired act, and no matter how loud they squawk, it's not going to give CDT only one year as some warped sense of payback!

Are you unaware of the fact that there are no racists in Berkeley, like in Knoxville. Not a single one.

I bet if you took a poll in April of popularity on Martin, and 3 years from now exact same results and took poll for Tyndall...the numbers would point towards Tyndall being the more popular.

I agree that Zo's roster looked a bit better, but as you've said we also didn't know McRae, Golden and Maymon were gonna turn in to what they did. In fact up to that point their paths looked to be headed along the same lines of Hall and Swiperboy's.

Both rosters were unproven, inexperienced, and had some guys with potential. Martin managed to take what he had, add a few pieces, and then go on to win 19 games and finish 2nd in the SEC.

Yet most seem to be saying 15 wins and CBI would be pretty acceptable this year given the hand that was dealt, no?

No any season without a tourney is not acceptable....he shouldn't be fired bc of it but it's never acceptable.

You are just comparing coaches with same records....obviously the coach that connects will win the poll. If CDT performs like wade or Buzz though and I bet Zo wins that vote.

But some people still want to say that the petition didn't impact their performance for the better. No doubt in my mind that without that petition, Martin gets axed and is an assistant coach somewhere right now.

If Cuonzo's own words are too be believed, then you ate correct. One more loss and we are left out of the play in game. We probably go on to lose another rd1 NIT @ TBA against Carson Newman etc.
I'm glad it happened as it did tho. Enjoyed the run. Happy that a good guy got another good $$$ contract. Happy that my team for a coaching upgrade. Could have been much worse.

So you're admitting that selling does matter, after previously saying it doesn't. So Tyndall possibly could skate by with similar results, but because he's more of a salesman would last longer. That was my whole point.

You may feel that way, but there's been quite a few "if he finishes over .500" that's a heck of a job posts.

Nothing wrong with Martin's first year. That's the point you're missing. Fans were still behind CCM at that point. Heck, fans packed TBA for a NIT game vs MTSU.

And if CDT wins 16-19 games, I think most fans will be on board.

U r the best at putting words in people's mouth.....I said strictly comparing the two he would win a popularity vote but fans would not be happy with either one..he might last longer bc Dave hired him and Zo was hired by the last AD.

Saying that is a realistic expectation, and saying it is acceptable are two different things.

I can realistically say we'll probably win somewhere around 15 games, but I don't have to believe that is an acceptable record. And off the record, Tyndall would probably say the same thing if he felt we would struggle to adapt quickly.

No one is going to call a .500 season acceptable at a school with our resources. Many will give him a pass in year one regardless of record but will demand improvment to consistently playing in the NCAA tournament.

1. Do you not recall the "goodbye Cuonzo" thread ~10 games into Year 1?

2. Fans packed TBA for NIT game vs. MTSU? It was maybe half full, lol.

So in your opinion being a salesman doesn't make the coach any more popular with the casual fan?

Let's just forget Martin like a bad flu he's gone and I'm personally glad we have a better coach I believe so let's leave it at that and embrace coach Tyndall! Go vols!!!

So what is more important? Rankings or experience and production? CDT inherited more production.

He also inherited Thompson and Davis who had numbers similar to Maymon and Golden. Davis was a 4 star on one site. Richardson was right outside the 4 stars.

The more you exaggerate to attempt to strengthen your obvious agenda, the less people will respect your opinions.

1. So now one idiotic poster 10 games in to year 1 = the fan base. Ok. I remember him getting blasted for that thread. This is something you do that I'm not sure that you really mean it or you just do it to argue but you have a habit of taking something said by one poster and attributing it to the entire fanbase.

2. 12038 was the attendance. That's packing for NIT. Call it what you want. It was open seating and the lower bowl was full and there were people up top. The crowd was rowdy and it was a great atmosphere. I was there.

Fans were still on board. Call it what you want.

UT hosted a NIT game in 2003 vs Georgetown. The attendance was 3011.
