If i may be so bold ... His point is that CDTs offensive schemes are generally very average in tempo. Scoring less than 40 vs UL is to illustrate that point, along with the statistical facts imo.
Just bc CDT uses full court pressure D using speed, endurance and length does NOT mean his O philosophy is like Pearl's "controlled chaos" scheme. That scheme set some UT scoring records and entertained a lot. CDT plays pressure opportunistic D, takes easy transition scores or becomes deliberate and shot clock eating in the 1/2 court.
Hardly! I think many of the posters are over your head. Some people have different concepts of run and gun. Evidently you are limited to one.
I didn't assume that at all. I just knew that most teams now average around 71-72 points a game. I figured they did also. There are not many run and gun teams in existence now in the college ranks. There is however a sure fire run and gun league called the Rocky Top League, no?Obviously it did as you assumed I was referring to last years UNLV team lol.
If scoring the same number of points per game as we did last year under Martin qualifies as Run & Gun, then there's a a lot you need to learn.

Seems like the argument is centered around the difference between transition offense and half-court offense. Tyndall is going to have a pressing defense that has the capability for fast transition points (supporting the "run and gun" argument). However, in the half-court sets, it will be working the ball around for a good shot (supporting the slower pace argument). It is a good mixture that gives all types of basketball fans the pleasure of viewing.

You are pretty much spot on. We will run off of turnovers caused by the d. In the half court his teams slow it down with a lot of passing and screening and takes shots late in the shot clock.
There are plenty of run and gun teams. CDT's teams have never been one. Last year over 40 something teams averaged over 77. 19 scored 80 or more. Those are run and gun teams to me.
We may run. Gun not so much.
Talked with Tyndall today about his offense... Told me it's very similar to the "40 minutes of Hell" run and gun system. Tyndall also mentioned that Star PG Brandon Lopez would be the commanding officer in charge of the offense.
Hope that clears any questions up.
we are not run and gun but we wont be slowing it down either. we will be passing and sitting picks while taking the first good shot available whether its early in the shot clock or late. Our defense will be as responsible for slowing the game down slightly as much as our offense. We will be attacking and aggressive on both ends of the court.
It does when the ball never touches the ground from half court...
His teams in the past have taken their shots late in the shot clock in the half court usually. Transition from turnovers caused balances his scoring out so it isn't a completely slow system. Once we set up though it will be running plays and shots with about 10 seconds left. Run and gun means you get up shots early and often. His teams have only scored more than 70 ppg 3 times in his career. His career average is under 70. Last year with his second highest scoring ever at 72.1 they were 108th in fg attempted, 188 in 3pt fg attempted. That is not a run and gun. I don't care though. UF averaged less than 70 last year. Defense wins. As long as he wins and doesn't score in the 50s I'll be happy. I don't know if the ones expecting a run and gun will though.

So if a team does that 1 time a game, but slows it down the rest of the time and barely scores 70 points they're a run & gun offense?
You're smarter than that man, c'mon. And I would love to see a highlight of USM running an alley oop without the ball touching the floor from half court on...
