'15 NC RB Rocky Reid (Wake Forest commit)

fraiser is as good or better than love. so he would be a take as well.

Williams is better than both.

I think we stick with Reid and Kamara.

Star gazers aside, the coaches took the two guys that would best help our offense IMO.

If they did not like Reid's size and speed as much as others guys then his offer when not have been committable.

I'll probably catch flack from this but I think we can upgrade from Reid.

With Kamara coming in as a sophomore, we can pitch a higher rated back as technically being the only back in his class.

Bryce Love and Dexter Williams both seem to be very interested in us

Just because they're higher rated on recruiting sites, doesn't mean they're higher on our coaches board.

Look at his film and tell me he's not elite.

I agree and think that goes for every recruit on UTs commitment list. If they did not want them to sign as a Vol, they would not have taken their commitment.

He fits a specific role in this offense and he's a good back, but what makes him so elite?

Love and Fraiser both have much better offer lists.

And I like Reid, so don't get the wrong impression.

Have u seen his junior film? He looks like highschool Gurley.

I really don't care about anyone else's opinion on Reid, because I've seen all I need to with his numbers/measurables/film.. They're all elite IMO.

Multiple times, and he doesn't.

I wish people would stop comparing our recruits to the best former recruits/players in the nation.

I disagree. I just watched them back to back again, and I'll say the same thing. And gurleys junior year, he wasn't considered one of the best players in the nation either... Just another 3* rb from North Carolina. Stop acting like he was the Lebron of football.

To each his own.

IMO, not having many offers from the home
teams is telling.

Again, I like where he fits into this offense; he brings a different dimension. I don't think he's elite, though. Not all of our recruits have to be.

What do u not like about his game?

His speed is going to hinder him in college. He's also running through absolutely massive holes, so it's hard to gauge his vision. I think he's got good vision, though. I think as a bigger guy, he's too willing to bounce outside, and while that works in HS, it won't work in the SEC.

As he gets bigger, he just needs to realize what type of back he is. He doesn't have to go for the homerun. He just needs to run through people and wear down the defense.

He doesn't cut as well as Gurley. Reid looks like a solid back who can play a role, but I would be shocked if he has anywhere the impact of Gurley. Reminds me more of some of LSU's backs.

That's fair, and I don't expect him to do what gurley has done in the SEC so early, but I'm comparing where they both were their junior years, and I think they're pretty comparable.

He outruns pretty much everyone in his tape, even when they have angles, so I think his speed is pretty deceptive. The holes he runs through are no bigger than the ones that gurley had his junior year.. That was actually one of the first things I noticed on gurleys tape.. His line was good.

Agree to disagree. I think he's more Shonn Greene than Gurley.

I think if he adds 7-10 more lbs, i'm not going to really care as much about his speed. He'll make his own holes.

I think the idea of NEEDINGa bigger back is overrated, generally. That isn't a knock on Reid or an indictment of him being in this class... Haven't watched film.

UT's staff loves Rocky Reid. As many other posters have previously stated, Reid doesn't have the most elite offer list because he committed to UT right when his reputation & offer list was beginning to blow up and pretty much shut everything down in his recruitment.

But don't let that fool anybody. If Rocky was currently uncommitted his offer list would be much different. If he happened to decommit today, his phone would be lit up from most major college football programs. He would be a take most anywhere.

UT's staff has a plan and a vision for every single recruit and commit. A lot of UT fans suddenly are wanting to discuss the possibility of dropping current commits because of UT's "apparent scholarship crunch". Naturally these fans are jumping on the lowest rates recruits. That's understandable I guess, but Reid won't be one of them. If Rocky goes elsewhere it certainly won't be the coaches decision.

It's just Rocky & Kamara in this class. UT's staff as well as Kamara both know what the deal is with him. He is big time. He wants to be be a big part of the offense & he will after he learns it. Kamara will be a redshirt sophomore when he begins at UT. He will have 3 years of eligibility. UT fans will be very lucky to see Kamara even use that 2nd year of eligibility. He has lofty goals and will work hard to earn them.

With that in mind, UT's staff knows what they want out of Rocky and what he brings to the table. They see a talented recruit that will wait and learn a year or two behind some extremely talented, more experienced RBs (Hurd, Kamara, Scott) and take over the starting load at RB as an every down SEC RB for multiple years.

Reid is a steal by UT's coaching staff and like other VN members have been stressing is ridiculously underrated by the services.

I don't get paid to evaluate or compare football players, but I've been around football my whole life and personally Rocky Reid strongly reminds me of former Minnesota All-Star & Dallas Cowboy All-Pro RB Marion Barber III.

I personally am excited for "The Barbarian 2.0" to return to the college game as a Vol. UT fans should be happy that Rocky is a Vol & let the UT coaching staff worry about who will and who will not be dropped, instead of bringing up hypothetical situations to which UT goes in another direction. JMO.

I don't know what some of you guys are smoking but Gurley does not look any better on his Senior HS video than Reid. And IMO and I am old RB Reid looks like he has more potential. And Reid looks faster and bigger in the videos. Take a look for yourself.

Gurley
Todd Gurley Senoir Highlight - Todd Gurley highlights
Rocky Reid
2013 Junior Highlights - Rocky Reid highlights

I watched both videos, and you are correct, Reid looks better than Gurley (I don't know about level of competition).

Those are senior highlights vs junior highlights.. Gurley was something like 185lbs his junior season.. So I'm excited to see Reid run during his senior year.
