IRS admits to targeting Conservative groups

That's absurd. Like everyone, I believe its a question of balancing security and liberty. Invariably, the party on the outside shrieks that the party in power has gone too far one way or the other.

In the current state of affairs, the GOP has gotten to the point that, no matter the incident, they screech that Obama has gone too far, even if it means whining that he went too far in one direction one day, and too far in the other later that same day.

Holy cow!

I'm sure Gramps could give us a full synopsis of the Nixon hearings and impeachment but the Republicans were just as harsh if not worse than the Dems. If they had not been Nixon would have never been forced to resign. It would be refreshing to see the Democrats of today hold their Dear Leader to the same accountability standards.

You left something on your chin. Don't forget to wipe your chin sir. You constantly gulp down & believe the lies & the deceit that comes out from this Administration trying to still prove a point that Obama is not the "WORST POTUS" and it's hilarious to see day after day the spin you put on it.

I bet if they issued a contempt of Congress charge against the former and current head of the IRS those emails would be found.

This scares me, so if I e-file my taxes to the IRS and their computer crashes...I'm SOL. They have no record of me sending them and they will more than likely charge me for filing late. Since they just "recycle" their hard drives. Got it!

Here's a good article explaining some of these issues about how they back up emails, what the process is, etc. Those of you trying to make something of this should read it before you jump to too many conclusions.

I had a hard drive on my computer go out some years ago, like 2009 if memory serves. I took it into a computer guy, just run of the mill, normal computer repair dude that was able to save practically everything off there. Program files, documents, music, pictures. Everything. It was all transferred to a portable hard drive and I was able to put it on a new one very easily.

So how is it that at least two years prior to her hard drive having a nuclear meltdown was I able to save nearly everything off my broken hard drive, but the IRS couldn't save a simple .pst file off hers?

LG, just admit this is far, far, far worse than you care to say. And the more excuses that come out of the IRS, the worse it sounds.

Don't be afraid. If that occured, the IRS would send you a letter informing you of your deficiencies, the deadline to rectify, and the penalties and interest assessed. They would not care your computer crashed. They would not care that you had no records. They would not care that their requests put an undue burden on you. Essentially, the IRS is the character Joe Pesci played in the movie Casino when he was meeting the banker in Sam Rothstein's home.

Yes. Every computer crash is just like every other computer crash and the guy down your street knows more about forensic searching of computers than the FBI.

Did the NSA not sell their domestic spying policies to the the public for this very reason? They wanted to make sure digital communication wasn't easily lost or destroyed?

I mean their system is terrible, but this doesn't really prove anything for you.

There is definitely wrongdoing in this whole issue, but nothing will ever come of it as people don't really care. It's apathy based on selfish viewpoints of the world. People like you LG don't care what politicians do as long as they fit in with your limited view of the world and what in your eyes is good and evil.

Republicans do it as well, they think the ends justify the means just as bad as the democrats.

Now I don't really care either way as nothing is going to change it's just pretty funny watching you defend people who are clearly pretty corrupt.

It's pretty insane they were allowed to pick and choose what emails were in needed of storing.

The one question that hasn't been answered is why weren't they forthcoming with this information back in February?

They should have notified the committee then. Either way the fact that you are still in this thread is just further proof that we are a nation of people who don't really care what our leaders do as long as they fit your simple minded logic.

The government doesn't attract the best and brightest.

Your last sentence is a great representation of how big of a moron your really are.

Okay, how far with the IRS would I get if the conversation went something like this?

"Oh, sorry IRS Auditor, my computer crashed and I lost all my files so I can't pay taxes this year. Well, I can't do anything since I threw the hard drive away. See you next year!"

I'm thinking they probably wouldn't go away that easily...

Go through an audit and not be able to produce a 3 year old receipt and see how much sympathy they have.

Nixon would have not been forced to resign if he had never put that tape recorder in the oval office and turned it on. The GOP could not defend such stupidity. It had nothing to do with the Republicans being harsh. Nixon backed himself into a corner with no way out, but out.

The thing that finally got Nixon was not the missing minutes but he actually had an Attorney General with integrity and honor. That was his down fall.
