'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

IMO there is 1 DE spot left and it's his if he wants it. Just comes down to how long the coaches are willing to wait him out. Kid is a huge instate talent. Hope they can lock him up a Vol.

Disagree. I think we are taking 2 more. That would give us 3 DT and 3 DE...I'm not sure where to put Dylan. I'm going to call him a lineman athlete...may be able to play on either line.

“(I was) really just hanging out. I talked to all the coaches, of course, but I didn’t do that much.”

“I kind of know them pretty well,” Phillips said. “I played against Vic before, (during) my sophomore year. I know him pretty well. Really, (they said) that they just love it (at Tennessee).”

“I have a pretty good relationship with the coaching staff, and that’s good,” Phillips said. “I like all their personalities and things like that. I’m pretty cool with all of them, so that’s mainly the good thing about them.

“The more I go up there, the more comfortable I get with them and stuff like that.”

Or you can take both. There will be more kids that leave when competition for pt gets harder.

And when those kids leave, filling those spots would make sense. Filling them before they are available is how recruiting can go bad for a coaching staff very quickly. JMO

Pretty much every coach does it.

Might be true. If you look at the 2014 class, 13 of the top 25 schools in the final top 25 class rankings took less than 25 kids. Some well under 25. I know a lot of things go into a class and it's final #'s, but obviously a lot of schools are choosing to not over sign.

6 of those 13, were SEC schools.

none of those schools had DD doing their recruiting,or lack of, the previous 3 years, had LK run off half a roster the year before that, and inherited a depleted roster... we had to get a bunch of talented bodies in here, for depth, for competition, and for talent at a lot of the positions... then we can go the route of being picky about who we offer...

I was just responding to the comment that almost all coaches do it. CBJ if he signs 20 in 2015, he would have flipped 73 or more of the 85 man roster already. Blaming Dools time is over IMO.

But after six years, we can still blame Bush right?

I do agree with you, but we need these kids to develop with time and coaching.

So what if potential elite players all start choosing UT then what? Turn them away because they aren't a need? Not in a position to do so no matter the spot..
