That was such horrible luck. It wasn't just the momentum. That delay gave Oregon's coaching staff a chance to coach up the defense on how to play against the unbalanced line formations that we were using to open tractor trailer sized holes in their defense. The only thing more disgusting than the timely delay was that Poole just didn't have the break-away speed to score, even with an enormous hole. Love him or hate him, Dooley had the worst luck I've ever seen his first year.
So hundreds of attacks blaming Dooley fairly or unfairly for various things... is OK. One guy who tries to provide a counterpoint needs to be squelched?
Dooley failed. He's not the cause for all the evil in UT's program. He didn't force Jones to make the coaching mistakes he made last year. He didn't permanently taint the players he coached such that they have to be purged from the program before we can expect to have a winning record again.
I have said this many times and I imagine that Oskie would do the same.... stop bringing Dooley up as an excuse for CURRENT actions and decisions... and no one will have need to argue with you.
Not trying to be an arse, but was Oregon not subject to the same rain delay? And, not doubting what you've said about Oregon making the necessary adjustments, but where were our coaching staff's adjustments? Oregon came out after the delay and beat the ever loving crud out of UT. The obvious answer is that Oregon's HC and staff did a much better job handling the adversity and coaching their team up when play resumed.
Finally, the only game I think we can legitimately say that Dooley was a victim to "bad luck" was the bowl game vs North Carolina his first year. He and the team got screwed that night. All the rest, all the other bad losses, all the bad 2nd half collapses......all could be chalked up to a poorly coached, poorly motivated team led by an incompetent HC coach.
They had none. They tricked a better team with a gameplan that threw them off. Oregon's coaches said that the rain delay allowed them to study some still pictures and come up with solutions. Not trying to be an arse, but was Oregon not subject to the same rain delay? So again, his team didn't show up for the 2nd half in several games while Jones' team didn't show up for the first in several games... how do you argue that Jones proved more as a COACH in his first year than Dooley? Finally, the only game I think we can legitimately say that Dooley was a victim to "bad luck" was the bowl game vs North Carolina his first year. This argument (1st half / 2nd half) is exactly how I prove it.
Good coaches make players believe in themselves and their teammates.
Every single time the going got tough for a Dooley coached team they folded their tents and quit. Losing was a habit and it was expected.
Last year we saw players finishing the game with good effort for 60 minutes. Trying to win each play no matter the score.
Contrast/compare 2012 Florida and Georgia vs 2013 Georgia and SCar games.
If you can honestly tell me you could not see evidence of improved coaching then we will never be able to agree on anything.

Jones beat a top 10 team and had a top 5 recruiting class, that's how I argue it.

So it is better to never show up at all than to show up for a half then get outmanned in the 2nd half? Interesting theory. This argument (1st half / 2nd half) is exactly how I prove it.

I guess you are talking about when they took LSU to the wire... in Baton Rouge? Or maybe when they found a way to make a play against Vandy in '11 rather than losing? Or maybe when Bray rallied them against USCe in '10? No. It must be the UNC game where they had a better team beaten except for a fluke ending.Every single time the going got tough for a Dooley coached team they folded their tents and quit. Losing was a habit and it was expected.
You can convince yourself of that if you like... you can blame Dooley if you like... but your claim simply isn't true.Last year we saw players finishing the game with good effort for 60 minutes. Trying to win each play no matter the score.
If you insist on being non-objective and self-deluding... then you are absolutely right. If you can honestly tell me you could not see evidence of improved coaching then we will never be able to agree on anything.
2015 will be the year for what? A nc or 7 wins.. If butch stinks it up this year 2015 may be harts last year..
Cbj best start winning some games or u think ticket sales r bad now. Its time to start showing potential if he wants to keep the fans around.

And he lost to Vandy with them missing several starters and almost lost to a mediocre mid-major (USA) at home.
Anyone with very much football sense could have looked at the USCe game and seen that it was a good match up for UT. It was still a very good win but there were a few of us who called it last summer. You can spin it all you like but Dooley in his first year beat every team he was expected to beat and but for some flukes so significant that the NCAA changed RULES... he could have had an 8 win team.
I hope this class truly is a top 5 class when it comes to performance. A big part of the reason UT is in the mess it is in is that Fulmer did very well in the NSD rankings but never got impact from that talent on the field.
I AM NOT claiming that Dooley was a better coach than Jones is. I am simply stating that his staff was at least as effective in his first season. Seeing how badly Dooley failed, people should at least take a wait and see with Jones rather than anointing him UT's savior already.... and acting as if any criticism of him is sacrilege.
