Dave Hart on the football program...

It's a very simple question, but you are right.
It is June and all we have to discuss is what ifs.
So, what if we go 5-7 or 4-8?
Does Butch's seat get hot?

We're not going 4-8, so it's stupid to even entertain that thought.

If we were to go 5-7, we've had catastrophic injuries on our team, and I'm not willing to entertain that thought either.

I just have no interest whatsoever in thinking about the worst case scenario when it comes to Tennessee football. There's enough worst case actually happening in my real life to do me for a while.

Go Vols.

2015 will be the year for what? A nc or 7 wins.. If butch stinks it up this year 2015 may be harts last year..

Cbj best start winning some games or u think ticket sales r bad now. Its time to start showing potential if he wants to keep the fans around.

I think he's doing a fine job recruiting. The team is young but extremely talented. I didn't know Ticket sales were bad. They broke a record for the ORange and White game attendance.

You're making a good argument

I like Butch and support him, but it's not hard to be objective about the situation after getting humbled/humiliated for most of 7 of the last 9 seasons.

That 2012 offense was so stacked it actually required our D to be historically bad to get CDD fired.

Dave Hart always comes across to me as kind of a dullard and I think we can do a lot better at athletic director but, you have to hand it to the guy he somehow stumbles into good hires. I wasn't enamored with Jones at first even though I didn't think he was a bad coach but the thing that sets Jones apart and makes him a good hire is he has really embraced this job and he really wants to be here and that makes him work very hard. I think Tyndall is going to be the same.

So Hart's public persona is what you use to judge whether or not he has what it takes? Or maybe I read that wrong. What is your criteria for "a lot better athletic director"?

For one thing he doesn't impress me as a public speaker. He appears a little insecure as displayed by the way he treated some of the employee's, i.e. his letter to the female athletic department administrator-can't remember her name where he called her insubordinate. I mean take a chill pill. He couldn't understand why someone would be loyal to Pat Summitt? Then the way he stumbled in the hiring process for a football coach. He just doesn't impress me the way a Jurich or Foley does. Make sense?

P.S.-Another thing, when he came in Dooley asked him to extend his assistants' contracts to give them security and Hart wouldn't so Dooley lost all his assistants. So, he had to hire all new assistants and Hart had to spend as much or more and give them three-year contracts anyway. Just a really stupid not well thought out move by Hart. It did allow us to finally get a good coach and Dooley was terrible but if Hart had been smart he would have extended the assistants at least one more year and saved us some money.

Yeah, I disagree 100% with the stumbled in hiring the football coach part. And I'm afraid I don't have a good reference for whether or not he's a good public speaker. I've only seen what's been posted online, and I don't have a problem with any of that.

As for the "what's her name" insubordinate stuff, I don't have any info on that so I can't use that to base an opinion on.

Well, the first thing he did is come out and make a statement that we have all the time in the world and we really didn't have all the time in the world because all the other schools who were looking for coaches were aggressively going after them and then Hart looked like an idiot with both Gundy and Strong in my opinion. He ended up making us look like a second tier school.

Her name was Debbie Jennings. She probably was a little insubordinate but she was a died in the wool Vol and loyal to Pat. He seemed like an insecure little man to me the way he handled it.

Doesn't matter...I'd give him an A for hiring Butch compared to Hammy's hires

Kiffin = D (never wanted to be here)
Dooley = F (never should have been considered)

I didn't hear him say "all the time in the world" ever, and it's already been documented that Strong thought he made a great case and was very convincing, but ultimately Strong wanted to stay at Louisville. Had nothing to do with the offer from UT.

If you want an excuse to feel like a 2nd tier school, I guess he gave it to you the way you see it. I just don't agree.

This place seems to repeat the same scenarios over and over and over… we get a coach and everything he does is perfect-he can do no wrong and is comparable to the absolute elite in coaching.
In my opinion, I don't think we know what Butch is yet. He had one nice win last year, he had several absolute ass whippings. If you say he shoulda had another nice win but for a fumble, you have to say he damn near went to overtime at home against a really poor team. He's recruited well one year, but it was a big year for in state talent and legacies, plus an inordinately high amount of scholarships.
All of this is to say, in my honest opinion, we don't really know what we have with Butch. Small steady progress this year will make me feel better, and then being competitive with everyone in 2015 will tell the tale. If the wheels were to absolutely come off this season, it could have serious consequences for '15 and '16, as well as on his ability to succeed here.
