Yup. It's really that simple. Win a bowl game and kids see progress and recruiting continues to see a boost. Win 5 games and IMO it would be a disaster going forward.
Just beat the damn Gators. That should do it. :good!:
I don't know man, I like that we schedule about one tough non-conference opponent every year. It just makes for good football, and I think it ultimately helps recruiting. Also, think about the experience that our younger guys will get from this game that will help them later in the year and in the years to come. I do slightly agree with though in that I wish we were playing them when we are really good. We do get to play them again in Knoxville next year. So even if we lose to them we might learn from it and exact some payback in Neyland. And buy out Oklahoma like yesterday, no matter how cowardly we look right now or how adverse it is to scheduling someone else. Nobody will care in three months when the season is in full swing and especially when we're playing somewhere sunny and warm in January.
Horrible mistake to schedule Oklahoma and you can't convince me otherwise.

Don't need to convince you...bought my tickets. GET OVER IT!!!
I guess i just see other schools in our shape buying their way into post-season play by scheduling cupcakes. Tennessee has plenty of good opponents to appease fans and until we create 16-team super conferences where we play tough opponents week in and week out, i want to take advantage of powder-puffs.
The last 5 years have taught me that our team learned nothing from getting pounded. Color me jaded.
I do understand your point. Just because I liked the fact that we scheduled Oregon didn't make me any less pissed that they ran us off the field two times in a row.
Mad respect for you following the VOLS to Norman. Been there, done that. Followed this team across country and back. Hope we pull it off.
But I'm satisfied with the rigors the SEC schedule offers, i just want wins. I want this team to have the extra practices at the end of the year and I see this Oklahoma game specifically as an impediment to our team getting that. If we schedule Direction School U then maybe we get to play that quality opponent in a bowl game that we fans enjoy.
I see your perspective. I do. Just seems like fun for fans, bad for the team. I know why we do it, to market the University to the Midwest. But you look for advantages everywhere and our SOS is irrelevant until we're in the BCS hunt and even then our schedule would speak for itself with or without Oklahoma.
Oh I know just making my point. I don't really care as much as it seems here sorry I brought it up.
