Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

I really think that Dobbs is going to be an excellent quarterback at UT. I think Ferguson would have been good too, but Dobbs strikes me as the type of guy who will put in however much work it takes to prove himself on the field.

That said, this was and still is Worley's team this year.

kid was homesick, and wants to be closer to home.. probably a girlfriend or whatever, doesnt matter.

People thinking its because he was behind peterman need a reality check. From all accounts of people actually at the practices.. he was in a pretty good spot competition wise.

everyone is trying to read farther into this then is healthy.

hey don't bring in reality to this thread :)

Dobbs will be just fine. If RF was the savior he would have seperated himself in the spring!t

My thoughts exactly. When you are better than the other guys in front of you, you typically are playing, i.g., Peyton over Stewart/Helton, Ainge over Schaeffer, Clausen over Suggs, Shuler over Colquitt, etc.

After saying this, he will probably win the 2016 National Championship with Louisville (since that is where everyone seems to transfer) and the Heisman.

Still not sold on Worley in this offense, he isn't a threat to run and that is a major problem when you are a read option team. Dobbs seems like a better fit, not a great runner but better than Worley.

Let me see if I've got this right.

Arguably the most talented QB on the team has decided to leave the program in May, 3 full months before the 1st game, because he thought he couldn't move up a depth chart made up of the SEC's 13th ranked QB in 2013, and the guy who's so good that he's the 13th ranked QB's backup?

Additionally he's only a freshman in the 1st place, with ample time to not only improve, but overtake anybody else on the roster.

So this highly touted kid is supoosedly afraid of competition from Worley and Dobbs?

Don't get me wrong, kids DO leave when they see an insurmountable stable of QB's ahead of them; an insurmountable stable of 4* and 5* QB's that are obviously more talented than them.

I haven't seen Dobbs play; but I've seen Worley play, and no offense to the young man, but I find it hard to believe any QB's are terrified at the prospect of competing against him... and if Dobbs is his backup, well, it's even harder to believe RF feared competing against him.

Surely there's more to this story that's yet to be revealed. I'd believe grades. I'd almost believe homesickness except that he's from a neighboring state. I just don't believe a QB battle has been settled 3 months from kickoff, to the extent that a guy would just throw in the towel, and either sit out a year or go play somewhere immediately that gives him virtually no chance of moving on to the next level.

Just doesn't make any sense to me.

The Dobbs-Ferguson competition wasn't going to be decided until next year, when Worley will be out of the way and one or the other would take over as starter. That still had a year to play out. Running away now because you're upset about being behind is a bad look. There's never been the whisper of a rumor that Jones likes Dobbs enough that this contest was already over.

Are you awake? Lucid?

You say the Dobbs-Ferguson battle wasn't to be decided until next year... BUT you conveniently forget to say that the BATTLE for the job was NOW, EVERY DAY, ALL DAY.

In that battle that was going on NOW, would you care to hazard a guess which QB was (i) in the lead, and (ii) pulling further and further ahead every time they stepped onto the field? Do you think that when all these present-day facts are considered, does it really matter when a "final" decision was going to be made? Or, do you think that a guy like Riley Ferguson could see the handwriting on the wall, and figure out that Dobbs was indeedthe Golden Child, just waiting to be anointed.

Now, see why it makes no difference that this QB decision was to be decided "next year"? If you're awake, and lucid, you will see the light.

Well this sucks! Not because I thought Riley was gonna be the next Peyton or anything. It's the fact we never got to see him in any game action.Sorry, I've seen Worley, Dobbs and Peterman in action and none of those guys inspire ANY confidence at the Qb position.Worley doesn't fit this offense. Can't run, subpar to average arm.Dobbs can run somewhat effectively, but can't throw consistently. Peterman has only played one game which was a disaster!

That's the Dooley era speaking. If Dobbs looks in the fall anything like he did in the O/W game, we got us a breakout season in the making.

We are loaded at WR, RB, DE, LB and Safety. The only real ? marks are OL and DT. People forget that FSU was in the doldrums just a few years ago, was mediocre the year before last....and that BOTH SEC CG teams had like worst to first type of seasons.

No reason to keep predicting gloom and doom. Just let the damn season play out.

That's not doom and gloom. 6-6 is better than Vegas has us, better or equal to most of the network services, and about par for the board.

I hope Dobbs is ready when he gets his chance this year, but it won't be an O&W game scenario and he won't be going against the 2nd team D on every drive.

Hope all our QBs stay healthy and Riley lands where he can contribute.

Dobbs started his college career with a burned redshirt on the road at Alabama. I think he's pretty much seen what there is to see.

That is pretty much a nightmare scenario to be tossed into. I want to see him do to 1st string SEC defenses what he did to our 2nd string. Then I will believe. Until then, I will only hope.

I agree, but it is because I am not sold on Butch yet. He can recruit and organize, but I still do not see evidence of good coaching on game day.

He out coached the Georgia and South Carolina staffs you should have watched those games!

Where did the "services" have FSU ranked...Auburn and Mizzou, as well...before the start of last season? Hmmmm? Hhhhhhhhmmmm?

I rest my case, your honor. :salute:

Yes you did. Check post 155.

Who cares whether he did or didn't? Right now our focus should be on RF and whether he goes or stays. Stop with the grade school "he hit me first, no you hit me first" bs and let's concentrate on trying our best to keep RF.

If RF leaves it will hurt big time. We have seen the others on the field and quite frankly last year they all three sucked. Worley can't hit an open receiver, Dobbs had what one TD pass his entire year, so with those two it will hurt big time should Riley leave. Peterman is a wash out plainly put. His one showing was a joke, so I wouldn't trust him in any situation. Bottom line none on these guys belong on anyone's "they inspire me " list.

Losing North would hurt big time. Losing Marlin Lane would hurt big time. From what we see losing Riley is not like losing a proven starter. What the heck has he done go prove otherwise????

All this talk of hoping Worley & Dobbs better be ready is bull. Most of you guys put all your faith is a 3* QB that has never taken a snap as a college QB...apparently Fergy wasn't ready to compete or lead this team this year or beyond or he would have stayed. He wanted the QB job handed to him and when it wasn't he quit...we don't need players like that especially at the QB position...good riddance!

Did Butch let Riley down or did Riley let Butch down? Inquiring minds want to know?

Neither. It appears (emphasis, it appears) the Rifleman has two issues:

1. Fear of new competition.
2. I case of "you Done me wrong, Butch Jones."

Courting Torrance Gibson, while also hunting yet another QB, to RF means they have no confidence in him. Going through annual competition for starter wasn't to his tastes. To some extent, I agree with him. I hate seeing him go because while I'm a Dobbs man, I do believe RF was our Tyler Bray 2.0 without the attitude and immaturity. Dobbs would have to play on the Cam Newton level to hold Riley off. And that would have been a good thing for our Vols. Because among other things, Riley would see the field for sure and make things horrifying for opponents who would have to deal two dangerous QBs with different playing styles.

But Riley has to look out for himself. He did all he could to show he loved the Vols. Snubbed Saban, walked on, and competed well. He deserved more than what he got.
