Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

it is not academics.

it has more to do with where he stands on the depth chart. He doesn't want to sit and hold a clipboard this fall.

If true then go beat out your competition and let them hold the clipboard. He's not entitled to anything. CBJ will start whoever gives us the best chance to win.

Guess or insider info? Just asking since you would "know" if anyone does.

Unless he goes FCS, he's going to sit and not even be allowed to touch the clipboard.

He is literally a play away from being The Man. I hope he thinks this through.

I suppose Moc fans might be excited right now. Feels like another blow to our once mighty Vols.

I feel like these two statements contradict themselves.

Can we wait until the rumor is validated before everyone chimes in with his "if the kid don't wanna compete and earn the job then gtfo" speech?

You have to know that the perspective from the two different sides isn't going to be the same. I hire people as part of my job. Because of that, I get to hear the applicant's side of why things didn't work out at other jobs. I recently had a highly skilled employee leave after 10 months. I knew going in that he was a tenure risk but his skills were worth the try.

According to him, his reasons for leaving previous jobs or being terminated were all bad things done by mgr's or companies.

I hope none of this is true. Riley committed under the last coaches then stuck with his commitment in spite of the change and Jones' pursuit of Dobbs. Most HS recruits with choices wouldn't have done that. That said, if he leaves... his side will be that he didn't get his fair shot or something to that effect.

So many people are reacting to specualtion and rumors instead of waiting for the truth. Telling the kid to leave if he doesn't like competition??? He came here even after another 4* QB was signed. Let's wait till the rumor mill dies down before we have this kid transferring to play for James Franklin at Penn St and Kiffen as his coordinator with Dooley as the new AD.

Why did you respond to me about that? I don't see it that way. Maybe the coaches do not see him like RF sees himself. Maybe he doesn't think he can compete well in the system. There will be some "pain" on both sides but the bottom line is that sometimes things just do not work out. It has nothing to do with his courage or willingness to compete... or Jones' fairness or ability to coach.

This could easily be a rumor born of the chatter because Dobbs and Worley went to the QB camp while Ferguson didn't.

I didn't respond to you. Didn't quote you. Saw several of those type of posts prior to yours and just hit reply.

Edit: my bad, didn't mean to quote you, just to hit reply only. Apologies

Notice how the word "if" has appeared in most or all of those posts so far.

Uh, I noticed how you used the word "if" in your post....

"Then good riddance if he goes. The way to play is to win the damn job."

I stand by my original post.

I suspect that Riley has multiple issues and what has never been said about him can be more telling. It has never been said that he has a terrific work ethic, is a student of the game, very demanding of himself etc. I suspect that college football might be too much at the d1 level. Some kids just want to be kids. It has nothing to do with his god given physical ability. By all accounts, he is the most physically talented of the four.
I have a son that walked on at an fcs school and earned a starting spot his RS frosh season. After the season, the coaches talked to him about an expanded role the next year. Guess what? He quit.He was tired of playing and just wanted to be a student. He lived to regret the decision, but sometimes kids get sick of the level of commitment it takes to play.
